THREE CACC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS TABBED ALL-AMERICAN BY DAKTRONICS
NEW HAVEN, CT - Three women's soccer players from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) institutions have been selected to the 2008 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America team. Georgian Court senior defender Katherine Gooch and Holy Family senior midfielder Jamie-Lynn Wallace were second team picks, while GCU freshman forward Kelly Lyons was an Honorable Mention.
Gooch, the co-captain of the CACC champion Lions, started all 24 games, including tournament play, while posting five goals and four assists on the season. All five of Gooch's goals were headers. Her efforts on the field also earned her a spot on the 2008 All-CACC first team and the Daktronics All-East Region first team. Gooch is a native of Morganville, NJ.
Wallace, a senior from Bensalem, PA, ranked third in the CACC in points (38), goals (18) and goals per-game (0.82) this season. She netted four goals in a game two times this season, against Bloomfield on Oct. 4 and Wilmington on Oct. 7. She was named to the All-CACC first team and Daktronics All-Region first team.
Lyons, the 2008 CACC Rookie of the Year and All-CACC first team member, made an immediate impact for GCU in her first collegiate season as she led the CACC in points with 48 and goals with 22. She also got off the eighth-most shots per game in the CACC with 3.25. Lyons was a five-time CACC Rookie of the Week and she also joined Gooch on the Daktronics All-Region first team.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools selected the team. This is the third year that Daktronics has sponsored the Women's Soccer All-America and All-Region teams.
