THREE CACC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS EARN NSCAA ALL-REGION STATUS

December 19, 2007

NEW HAVEN, CT ? Three women's soccer players from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) have earned All-New England Region status from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Holy Family University senior defender Jenn Hamill and senior forward Kaitlin Gavaghan were named to the second team, while Wilmington University senior forward Begum Malali was a third team pick.

Gavaghan led the Tigers in goals (11), assists (11) and points (33) for the season. She ranked third in the CACC in assists, fourth in points and 10th in goals.

Hamill anchored a defense that allowed 1.94 goals per game, which stood fifth in the CACC. She also contributed offensively with two goals, both game winners, and four points. Gavaghan and Hamill are the first two players from Holy Family to be named to a NSCAA All-Region team. Both Gavaghan and Hamill were second team All-Region selections by Daktronics, which was announced on Nov. 6.

Holy Family went 14-8 overall and won the CACC regular-season championship with an 11-0 CACC record. The Tigers also won the CACC Tournament Championship with a 1-0 victory over Philadelphia University. Holy Family advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time and became the first CACC team to reach the tournament.

Wilmington's Malali was voted the CACC Player of the Year after setting CACC single-season records with 60 points and 27 goals. She also provided six assists, which tied for eighth in the CACC for the season. Malali helped lead Wilmington to a fourth-place finish in the CACC regular-season standings with a 7-4 record to go with a 14-6-2 overall mark. Malali was also a first team All-Region choice by Daktronics this season.
