MALALI GARNERS DAKTRONICS WOMEN'S SOCCER ALL-AMERICA STATUS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Wilmington University and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) are pleased to announce that Begum Malali (Absegami HS/Galloway, NJ) was named to the women's soccer Daktronics All-America First Team for her performance this past season.

Malali, the CACC Player of the Year, also garnered first team All-Conference honors for the fourth time in her career. She was named to the Daktronics All-New England Region First Team as well.

Malali, a senior forward, earned All-American honors for the first time in her career. She had career highs in goals and points this past season. A dynamic scorer, Malali led the Wildcats in almost every offensive category. She won the CACC scoring title, finishing first in goals (27), points (60), goals per game (1.3), points per game (2.9), and shots (83). Malali also was eighth in assists (6) and netted an astounding 11 game-winning goals this season. Her spectacular offensive efforts were good for fifth in Division II in goals per game and sixth in the nation in points per game.

Her season totals of 27 goals and 60 points were the highest in CACC history, and she also owns Wilmington school records for goals (80), points (177), goals per game (1.00), and points per game (2.21). The most decorated women's soccer player in Wilmington University history, Malali went 50-27-3 during her career, and netted 80 goals, including 19 game-winners.

Malali becomes the first Lady Wildcat soccer player in school history to have earned First-Team All-American honors.

This past season Malali helped lead the Wildcats to a 7-4 record in the CACC and an overall record of 14-6-2. The ?Cats finished the regular season in fourth place, and lost in the semi-finals of the CACC playoffs, 1-0 to eventual champion Holy Family University. Malali's high powered scoring helped the Wildcats to the sixth ranked offense in all of Division II. Wilmington also was regionally ranked for the first time in program history, and was positioned as high as sixth place in two polls.
