DOMINICAN HEAD WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH PHIL FLUHR ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

ORANGEBURG, NY--Dominican College Director of Athletics, Joe Clinton, has announced the retirement of Head Women's Soccer Coach, Phil Fluhr. Fluhr, who has been at the helm of the Lady Chargers soccer program for the past five seasons, compiled a 41-50-9 record in his second stint at DC.

Fluhr previously was the head coach from 1996-1998 and had a record of 34-21-3. In 1998 he guided the team to its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, its first NAIA Northeast Region Title and had the program's first appearance at the NAIA Championships.

"I have entered a stage of personal perspective-taking in my life," Fluhr said. "I am leaving Dominican College in order to dedicate my time and energy to my wife of 37 years, Rhea Fluhr."

Fluhr has coached soccer for 28 years at both the high school and collegiate levels. Between his years at Dominican, he was the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Wagner College.

On the high school level, he was the head girl's coach at Newdorp High School in Staten Island and the head boy's coach at Mount Loretto High School in Staten Island. Fluhr has also been involved on the club level in New Jersey as he has been the head coach of the New Jersey State Select and Club Select Teams.

"I have always taught my teams to play the right way. The end goal I have for all my players was for each of them to make their teammates better," said Fluhr.

This past season, the Lady Chargers posted a 8-9-2 record and a CACC record of 6-4-1. The team earned the fifth seed in the CACC Tournament and lost in the quarterfinals to #4 Wilmington University in penalty kicks after playing to a 2-2 tie after two overtimes.

"The Dominican College Athletic Department wishes Phil all the best on his retirement," Clinton said. "I'd like to thank him for his loyalty and commitment to the women's soccer program and the DC Community over the past five years."
