Post University Claims First CACC Weekly Women's Lacrosse Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Post University midfielder Mallorie Michalak has been named as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week, for the period ending March 11.

 

Post also claimed the CACC Rookie of the Week award as freshman Miranda Polaski claimed the honor after registering eight goals and five assists over three games last week.

 

 

CACC Player  of the Week
Mallorie Michalak, Post (Gr., M, 5-2, Meriden, Conn.)
Recorded nine goals, two assists and 14 groundballs over three games last week.  Scored seven goals and added two assists in 19-9 win over St. Joseph’s (Conn.) on March 9. 

CACC Rookie of the Week
Miranda Polaski, Post (Fr., M, 5-7, Agawam, Mass.)
Tallied eight goals, five assists and nine groundballs over three games last week.  Tallied four goals in 16-13 loss vs. Bridgeport (3/2).  Notched four goals and three assists in 19-9 win over St. Joseph’s (3/9).

 

CACC Honorable Mention
Samantha Shaw, Georgian Court (Jr., A, Howell, N.J.)  - Totaled three goals, one assist in 25-10 loss vs. Bloomsburg (3/7).

Allison Smithwick, Dominican (Fr., A, Commack, N.Y.)  - Scored four goals over two games last week.  Netted a pair of scores in 13-6 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas (3/7) and added two more vs. Lindenwood (Mo.) (3/9).

Stephanie McNesby, Holy Family (Jr., M, Philadelphia, Pa.)  - Tallied five goals, four assists and five groundballs over three games last week. 

Brianna Lancetta, Holy Family (Fr., M, Marlton, N.J.)  - Recorded eight goals and five groundballs over three games last week.  Tallied four scores vs. No. 14 Malloy (3/3), before adding a pair in games against No. 7 West Chester (3/6) and Mercy (3/8).


CACC Women’s Lacrosse Team Notes
Georgian Court - GCU’s opening day defeat at Bloomsburg (25-10, March 7) was the Lions’ worst loss since losing at Adelphi University by a score of 23-1 back on 3/19/09 … Georgian Court gets back at it Thursday afternoon with an away contest at East Stroudsburg University before kicking off the CACC portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon at arch-rival Philadelphia University.

Post - Post played its first regular season game at LaMoy Field, an on-campus facility, where it fell to Bridgeport 16-13 on Friday afternoon. The Eagles rallied from a six-goal deficit in the first half to even the score at 12-12 with 12:49 to play in regulation. Freshman Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) led the team with four goals, while sophomore Meghann Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) and junior Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) tallied three goals a pierce. The Eagles won their first game in over a year with a 19-9 triumph over St. Joseph (Conn.) at LaMoy Field on March 9. After trailing 1-0 early, Post rattled off nine of the next 10 goals to take the lead for good.
