GCU'S MIGLIORSI TO PRESENT AT 2009 US NATIONAL LACROSSE CONVENTION
BALTIMORE - US Lacrosse is proud to announce that Mike Migliorisi, head women's lacrosse coach at Georgian Court University, will be presenting on January 17th at the 2009 US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Adidas in Baltimore, MD. Over 140 presenters, including officials, coaches, and players, will speak at the National Convention. Highlighting the list of speakers is Baltimore icon Cal Ripken, Jr., who will present the keynote address on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Convention Center.
Migliorisi has been invited to speak about a zone defense that he developed nine years ago. "I've been making adjustments to it every year," said Migliorisi. "It's the GCU athletes that really put the finishing touches on it. When you can go up against national top ten teams and hang with them, with this zone in use, it becomes worth all the work you put into it."
Coach "Miggs" has been the head man at Georgian Court since the program's inception in 2007. Migliorisi led the Lions to an 11-7 record in that inaugural season, including a trip to the ECAC championship game vs. Philadelphia University. The Lions duplicated that win total in 2008 with an 11-5 mark, which included matches against perennial NCAA Division II powerhouses such C.W. Post University and Adelphi University. After playing as an Independent for its first two seasons, GCU will join the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), along with Chestnut Hill College, Dominican College, Holy Family University, Philadelphia University, and Wilmington University, as lacrosse becomes a conference sport in 2009.
The Lions' roster, compiled of 13 juniors, six sophomores, five freshmen, and just one senior, is built for the present and the future. "GCU lacrosse is growing in leaps and bounds, and I would like to think that this is a small piece in that progression. The women that play for me and (Asst.) Coach Blanchard are amazing people. I thank them for being so open-minded when it was being taught to them."
Migliorisi and the Georgian Court Lions commence their third championship season on March 5th, 2009 at Kutztown University.
The US Lacrosse National Convention provides the sport's largest educational opportunity, with over 5,000 coaches, officials, program administrators and vendors in attendance each year. For the fifth year in a row the convention will feature a "live field" area, sponsored by Warrior and Brine, to supplement classroom clinics for coaches and officials. Clinics are offered for all levels of coaches and officials, ranging from youth play up through college-aged players.
The Convention also features the largest-ever lacrosse specific Expo Hall with 100 exhibitors registered to date, the US Lacrosse Youth Excellence Awards Breakfast, the Women's Division Kickoff Luncheon presented by Sports Her Way and Brine, Saturday's Fan Fest, the Women's Recruiting Panel Breakfast, a Men's Recruiting Panel and Seminar, the Level 1 and Level II Coaches' Education Clinic, and several other special events.
