NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 10, 2019) -- The University of the Sciences women's basketball team received great news on Sunday night, as the team has been selected as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II East Region Tournament, which will be staged next weekend (March 15-18) in Philadelphia, Pa. The Devills will serve as the host school for the regional at the ARC on their campus. The announcement was made on the NCAA's official selection show at NCAA.com(.)
In addition to USciences, fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) member Jefferson earned the No. 3 seed in the East Region. Both teams played in an epic contest on Sunday in the CACC Championship Final, ultimately won by Jefferson in overtime by a score of 74-73. Jefferson earned the CACC's automatic bid to the regional, while USciences collected the No. 1 seed in an at-large spot.
USciences will take on eighth-seeded NYIT in Friday's first round, while Jefferson will face sixth-seeded Stonehill. NYIT hails from the East Coast Conference (ECC), while Stonehill checks in from the NE-10. The Skyhawks enter this year's tournament as the defending regional champions.
