Kristen Byle Selected CACC Player of the Week
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Kristen Blye of Philadelphia has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week picking up Philadelphia's Third Player of the Week this season. Lashonda Hathorne of Dominican picks up her first Rookie of the Week for her past performance.
CACC Player of the Week
Kristen Blye, Philadelphia (Jr., F, 6-0, Chester Springs, PA) recorded 19.0 points per game, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals. Blye shot 56% from the field and continued good shooting as she shot 10 of 11 from the free throw line helping the Lady Rams pick up two victories.
CACC Rookie of the Week
Lashonda Hathorne, Dominican (Fr., G, 5-9, Queens, NY) contributed an average of 9.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals while helping the team go 2-1 on the week and 2-0 in Conference games. Harthorne also had a strong performance from the free throw line going 8 for 10.
Honorable Mention
Trina Plummer, Felician (So., F, 5-10, West Babylon, NY) - Collected 12.0 rebounds per game and 17.0 points while making 12 of 17 free throws.
Jeanette Anderson, Caldwell (So., F, 6-2, Lynn, MA) - Averaged 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 63% from the field.
Ivettlis Castro, Bloomfield (So., G, 5-6, Carteret, NJ) - Scored 21 of her 39 points on the week from behind the three point line.
CACC Notes
Bloomfield College - The Lady Deacons went 1-1 for the week, picking up a non-conference home victory over the University of Bridgeport Wednesday evening. Sophomore guard Ivettlis Castro (Carteret, N.J.) netted a team-high 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals in the win, while sophomore Lauren Deverin (Sewaren, N.J.) finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Castro tallied 22 points in Saturday's loss to CACC opponent Caldwell College, to finish with an average of 19.5 points per game over the two-game week. Senior guard Vanessa Lamison (Laurel, Md.) averaged 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the week, totaling a game-high six assists in the loss to Caldwell. Shaniqua Bacote (Paterson, N.J.) continued her solid play in the post, averaging 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the week.
Caldwell College - Caldwell ended a five-game losing streak with a 79-67 win over Bloomfield on Saturday to even its conference record at 1-1. Junior guard Torey Jones scored 23 points while making 4-of-7 from three-point range to lead the Cougars. The performance left Jones just five points shy of 1,000 for her career. Sophomore forward Jeanette Anderson added 18 points and 12 rebounds against Bloomfield for her second double-double of the week. In a loss at Dominican on Wednesday, Anderson tallied 19 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Junior center Gillian Felix registered eight blocks this week, including five against Dominican. The Cougars play three CACC games on the road this week, facing Felician on Tuesday, Concordia on Thursday and Chestnut Hill on Saturday.
Concordia College - Concordia (1-7, 0-2 CACC) lost their first two conference games of the season last week to Felician and Dominican. This week the Clippers will host Nyack at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and then host Caldwell at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Concordia's Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, N.Y.) is now the conference leader in rebounds per game (13.6) as of Monday morning.
Felician College - Senior center Jessica Ford and sophomore forward Trina Plummer each posted double-doubles in both of Felician's wins last week, as the Golden Falcons started 2-0 in conference play with victories versus Concordia and at Post.
Philadelphia University - The Lady Rams picked up two wins in the past week due to impressive back to back offensive performances by junior forward Kristen Blye . The team will return to action on Wednesday (12/6) at 5:30 PM when they host Georgian Court for a conference matchup.
Post University - This week the Eagles are on the road for a pair of conference games as they travel to Bloomfield on Thursday night and USciences on Saturday.
