Philadelphia’s Christine Wooding Named CACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 24, 2012) – Philadelphia senior center Christine Wooding (Northfield, N.J) has been named as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year.  The vote was unanimous as Wooding received a first-place vote from all 13 opposing head coaches.  Philadelphia was not allowed to vote for its own candidates. The announcement was made by Commissioner Daniel Mara of Waterbury.

University of the Sciences freshman Brianne Traub (Wayne, N.J.) was honored as the CACC Rookie of the Year while Felician head coach Steve Fagan was recognized as the CACC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.

Nyack College also was selected as the winner of the CACC Women's Basketball Sportsmanship Award.

Wooding started all 28 games and led the CACC in scoring at 20.1 ppg, which also ranks ninth nationally.  She also ranks second among the conference's rebounding leaders at 11.6 rpg (9th in NCAA).  The 6-0 center also led the league in minutes (993) and free throws made (190) while leading the Rams to a 20-8 overall mark (14-5 CACC).  In addition, Wooding tallied double-figure points in 27-of-28 games in 2011-12 and registered 17 double-doubles.  Wooding was a six-time CACC Player of the Week choice as a senior.

Traub was a nine-time CACC Rookie of the Week this season after leading the Devils to a fourth-place finish in the South Division and a berth in the CACC Championship, which marks USciences second straight CACC Tournament appearance.  The freshman guard enjoyed a breakthrough rookie campaign which saw her rank fifth among CACC scoring leaders at 16.9 ppg and sixth in steals (51).  She registered a double-figure points in 25 games this season, which also included a stretch where she hit double-digits in 20 consecutive contests.

Fagan was selected as CACC Coach of the Year by his peers for the first time in his career after guiding the Golden Falcons to a 17-9 overall mark (14-5 CACC) and the North Division title, Felician's first since the CACC moved to the divisional format in 2007-08.

Joining Wooding on the All-CACC First Team are Torey Jones (Caldwell), Jeanette Anderson (Caldwell), Destiny Barnette (Felician) and Erin Mann (Holy Family).

Jones ranked sixth among CACC scoring leaders at 15.7 ppg and fourth in 3-point percentage (.382) while helping guide Caldwell to a 16-10 overall mark and a second-place finish in the North Division.  Caldwell teammate Anderson also checked in among the conference's scoring leaders at fifth with a 15.8 ppg average.  Jones is a two-time All-CACC first team choice, while Anderson was a second team all-league selection last season and the 2010-11 CACC Rookie of the Year.

Barnette's selection marked the first time she has earned an all-league mention.  The senior guard ranked third in the CACC in scoring at 18.2 ppg and notched double-figure points in 21 games this season.  Her selection marks the second straight season that Felician had a player named to the first team following Quay Baskerville's selection in 2010-11.

Mann ranked second in the CACC in scoring at 18.5 ppg (22nd in NCAA) and second in field goal percentage at .563.  The junior earned first-team all-league status for the first time in her career after being recognized with second-team status as a sophomore.
