BLOOMFIELD'S LAMISON TABBED WOMEN'S HOOPS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Vanessa Lamison of Bloomfield College has been tabbed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 23. Caldwell College freshman Jeanette Anderson was selected Rookie of the Week.

Lamison, a junior guard who hails from Laurel, Md., led the Deacons to a 2-0 week with averages of 17.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per-game while shooting 54.1-percent (13-for-24) from the field. She tallied 20 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in a conference win over Felician.

Anderson, a 6-1 freshman center from Lynn, Mass., has earned Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season. In a 2-0 week, she averaged 11.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per-game, including a 16-point, 9-rebound performance in a road win at Goldey-Beacom.

Honorable Mention

Torey Jones, Caldwell (So., G, 5-8, Providence, RI) - In a 2-0 week, averaged 20.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per-game.

Catherine Carr, Holy Family (Sr., F, 6-0, Bernardsville, NJ) - Had 20 points, five rebounds and two assists in a victory over Concordia.

Irene Hudson, Goldey-Beacom (So., F, 5-10, Syracuse, NY) - In a 1-1 week, averaged 16, points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per-game.

Victoria Sweet, Nyack (Sr., F, 5-11, Harlem, NY) - Averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per-game in an 0-2 week.

Lindsey Lopez, Dominican (So., G, Elmwood Park, NJ) - In a win over Nyack, tallied 18 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Marissa Chesnavich, USci (Sr., F, 5-11, Pittston, PA) - Shot 80-percent (12-15) from the field and averaged 13.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in two games. 

CACC Notes

Bloomfield - The Lady Deacons ran their conference winning streak to eight straight victories to start their 2010-2011 campaign this week, topping Felician and Georgian Court in a pair of road contests.  Junior guard Vanessa Lamison averaged 17.5 points, 10 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3 steals over the two-game span, leading Bloomfield to the triumph over Felician with 20 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.  Senior center Tiffany McDaniel shined against Georgian Court, notching a team-high 16 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocks.  McDaniel also posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win over Felician, one of three Bloomfield players in double-figures.  Shaniqua Bacote continued to solidify herself as one of the best young post players in the CACC, tallying 15 points and eight rebounds against Felician, and notching 11 points, six rebounds and a team-high five steals against Georgian Court.  Robyn Burton continued her excellent play off the bench against GCU, notching 13 points to go with five steals.

Caldwell - The Cougars extended their winning streak to eight games with a pair of CACC wins last week. Sophomore guard Torey Jones hit five three-pointers en route to a game-high 26 points in a 68-50 triumph over Nyack at home on Wednesday. Then on Saturday, freshman forward Jeanette Anderson's 16 points and nine rebounds helped Caldwell defeat Goldey-Beacom on the road, 65-62. Senior guard Kirsty Leedham, who had 13 points against the Lightning, became the seventh Cougar to score 1,400 career points. The Cougars' 11-3 start is the best over 14 games in the program's history. This week Caldwell hosts Post and Holy Family in a pair of CACC contests.

Chestnut Hill - On Saturday, January 22, Chestnut Hill College opened their 55-39 win over Post University with a 20-point scoring streak; the longest in program history.

Dominican  -  The Lady Chargers broke a six-game losing streak after defeating Nyack College, 65-59 on Jan. 22nd on Coach Baxter  Court at the Hennessy Center. Lindsey Lopez led three Lady Chargers in double figures with 18 points. Megan Murphy netted 13 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Jasmine Schinella tallied 10 points, a game leading five steals and four boards in the victory.

Felician - Senior F Quay Baskerville has moved into the top 10 all-time at Felician in scoring with 676 career points. Baskerville, a transfer from Globe Institute of Technology, has played in 43 games for the Golden Falcons, an average of 15.7 points per game. Junior C Jessica Ford has moved into 10th place on Felician's career rebounding list with 418. Ford has been the Golden Falcons' all-time leader in blocked shots since the first game of her sophomore season.

Goldey-Beacom - GBC has now won four straight games in the series with its crosstown rival, Wilmington University. During the 72-62 win at the Pratt Center, the Lightning set a new CACC single-game team record for blocks with 17. Senior forward Arielle Alford led the way with a season-high nine blocks. Her nine blocks ranks second, individually, for blocks in the game, as she also owns the No. 1 spot on that list with 12 blocks in a game back on Jan. 20, 2009 against Bloomfield.

Holy Family - Holy Family, ranked 22nd in the recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, defeated Concordia College (97-51) in the team's lone game of the week Saturday afternoon. Senior Catherine Carr entered the game against the Clippers needing only one point to become the fifth player in program history to score 1,700 career points. Carr tallied 20 points in the win and currently has 1,719 career points. She is 15 points away from moving into fourth place on the all-time scoring list in school history. Sophomore Kelly Brady recorded her first career double-double after setting new career highs in points (11) and rebounds (11) against Concordia. Holy Family is on the road against Caldwell College on Saturday, Jan. 29.

Philadelphia - Philadelphia University long-time women's basketball coach Tom Shirley reached a momentous milestone in his team's 76-60 win over the visiting Chestnut Hill College Griffins. Coach Shirley secured his 600th career victory with the win, cementing his spot as Philadelphia's winningest active women's basketball coach. Four PhilaU starters scored in double-digits to help aid the win, as PhilaU Junior forward Christine Wooding led all with 20 points, along with eight rebounds. PhilaU takes the court next at the University of the Sciences on Tuesday (1/25) at 6 p.m.

Post - Post University sophomore Casey Brooks averaged 14 points for the fourth ranked Eagles in the CACC North Division in two games last week. She shot 62.5% from the floor and 83.3% from the charity stripe, along with 2.5 rebounds per game. Coming up this week it is three games including Bloomfield on Tuesday, Caldwell Thursday, and hosting Georgian Court on Saturday.

USciences - The University of the Sciences set a program record for shooting percentage (59.6%) and tied a school standard for assists (28) in defeating Georgian Court, 79-50 on Wednesday. Marissa Chesnavich (Pittston, Pa.) set a school record in the game, shooting a perfect 8-8 from the field, coupled with her 7-7 shooting effort earlier this season, Marissa is now the only women's basketball player in the CACC's NCAA era to record two perfect shooting games while making seven or more field goals. After making her first field goal vs. Felician, Marissa also set a school record with 12 consecutive field goals made. Caitlin Shaw (Eatontown, N.J.)  is currently ranked ninth  in the nation in scoring in the most recent NCAA statistical report (1/16/11), averaging 20.3 points per game. Shaw also ranks 35th in field goal percentage (53.4%), 50th in rebounds (9.2/game) and 76th in free throw percentage (82.5%). Colleen Christian (Warrington, Pa.) ranks 22nd in the nation in free throw percentage (88.1%). As a team the Devils rank fifth nationally in free throw percentage (77.9%) and have held their opponents to just 34.0% shooting from the field (11th best mark in the nation). Opponents have also averaged just 55.8 points/game against the Devils, ranking the team 29th in the country in scoring defense.
