THREE CACC BASKETBALL TEAMS RANKED IN REGION

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Basketball teams are ranked in the East Region according to this week’s NCAA Division II Regional polls. The Holy Family University and Caldwell College women are ranked for the second straight week, while the Goldey-Beacom College men moved into the poll for the first time this season.

Holy Family stands second for the second consecutive week, while Caldwell moved up one spot to ninth. The Goldey-Beacom men enter the poll in the ninth position.

Holy Family, which is ranked 21st in the recent USA Today/ESPN Division II Poll, is coming off a recent 87-70 victory over Philadelphia University Tuesday night. The Tigers also upended Caldwell, 68-55, on the road last week. The Tigers have won three straight games and nine of their last 10 and now sport a 13-3 overall record and a 10-1 CACC mark. Holy Family hosts Chestnut Hill College and Bloomfield College at home this week. Bloomfield currently leads the CACC’s North Division with a 10-0 conference record.

Caldwell defeated Post University on Thursday, 65-61 to tie the school record with its ninth consecutive victory. However, the winning streak came to an end Saturday with the 68-55 loss to Holy Family. Caldwell is now 12-4 overall this season and 8-2 in conference action. This week Caldwell hosts Felician College on Thursday before playing at Philadelphia University on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The Lightning men top the CACC South Division standings with an overall record of 13-7 along with an 8-2 conference mark. The team most recently defeated the North Division’s top team, Bloomfield College, 102-96 in overtime on the road. Among GBC’s 13 wins this season is a 69-68 upset over the Atlantic Region’s No. 2 team, Bowie State (13-3) of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Head coach Chuck Hammond and the Lightning are back in action Thursday night at 8 p.m. on the road against CACC foe University of the Sciences.
