RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Recent high-school graduates Tiayana Logan of Brooklyn, N.Y., Tye Simmonds of Vineland, and Renelle Wyke of Charlotte, N.C., have signed athletic financial aid agreements to continue their basketball careers at Felician College, Golden Falcon head women's coach Steve Fagan announced today.
"All three of these players are defensive minded, and will bring the defensive intensity and foundation that we're looking to build on," said Fagan, entering his second season at Felician. "They come from solid high school programs, and they have the versatility to play multiple positions and guard multiple positions."
Logan was the team Most Valuable Player as a senior for Bedford Academy of Brooklyn, where she also participated in volleyball and track. A 5-foot-10 small forward, she plays AAU basketball for the Lady X-Men. She intends to major in communication at Felician.
Simmonds, a 5-foot-6 small forward, was a two-time second-team all-Cape Atlantic League selection for Sacred Heart High of Vineland, where she was also a member of the outdoor track team. She led the CAL in rebounding in each of the last two seasons. Simmonds has narrowed her choices for a major course of study to communication or marketing/management.
Wyke was a member of two state championship teams at Victory Christian Center School of Charlotte. As a senior, the 5-foot-8 shooting guard averaged 20.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, earning all-state and conference MVP honors. A native of Staten Island, N.Y., Wyke has lived in Charlotte for three years. She expects to major in psychology.
The trio joins guard Jacqueline Passalacqua (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's Girls), who signed a national letter of intent in April, in Fagan's class of 2013. Felician, a member of NCAA Division II, plays in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
