FELICIAN'S BIAMONTE SELECTED CACC STUDENT-ATHLETE OF MONTH FOR DECEMBER

NEW HAVEN, CT - Janelle Biamonte of Felician College has been selected the December Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month, announced CACC Commissioner Dan Mara. Biamonte is a senior Elementary Education/English major at Felician and a member of the women's basketball team.

Biamonte, who is from Secaucus, NJ, sports a 3.99 cumulative grade-point-average through the fall 2009 semester. She was a 2009 ESPN the Magazine first-team Academic All-District selection, becoming the first first-team honoree in any sport in Felician history. She was also a member of the 2008-09 CACC Winter All-Academic team.

In addition to being a distinguished student-athlete, Biamonte is active in the Felician community and beyond. She joined three other teacher education majors on a Franciscan mission to Nicaragua in August of 2009. On the 10-day long trip, she provided volunteer assistance at an orphanage, nursing home, and housing developments and read to and taught two fourth-grade classes.

"The idea was to see what school systems are like in a third-world country," said Biamonte.  "It was extremely eye-opening, something I'll never forget. The people were so appreciative and grateful. There was no way I could come back home and be the same person."

Biamonte has been involved with two annual basketball team service activities. One is the Rutherford Ragamuffin Parade where team members serve as chaperones to the local town's Halloween Parade. The other is Shoot for Hunger, which is a food drive organized by the team at the home game closest to Thanksgiving.

On the court, Biamonte is the lone team captain for the Golden Falcons. She was named the CACC Player of the Week on December 21 and was recently chosen MVP of the Pace Holiday Classic. She currently stands sixth in the CACC in scoring (15.0 ppg.) and rebounding (8.7), is tied for fifth in three-pointers made per-game (1.89) and 13th in three-point percentage (.340). She has produced four double-doubles and with Biamonte leading the way, the squad is riding a school-record-tying seven-game win streak. The team is 7-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play entering the week.

Biamonte led the team in scoring in each of the past two seasons and has career averages of 13.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per-game. In just 63 games, she is second all-time at Felician with 107 three-point field-goals and is in the top 10 in scoring with 873 points.
