PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Former Holy Family University women's basketball guard Jamie Battinieri will return to her alma mater as the team's newest assistant coach. The announcement was made by head coach Mike McLaughlin.

"I'm really excited and honored to be able to coach here," said Battinieri. "I know I have some big shoes to fill, but I'm ready for the challenge."

Battinieri replaces former assistant Bernadette Laukaitis, who became the head coach at Cabrini College in mid-July. She will handle the team's guards and the off-season training program.

Battinieri played for the Tigers from 2001 until 2005. She scored 1,348 points which places her sixth on the team's all-time scoring list. She is also fifth in all-time assists with 439. Battinieri connected on 230 3-pointers, which the second highest career total. She was a two-time All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) first team selection (2004, 2005). The Tigers had four 25-win seasons, including two 30-win seasons with Battinieri on the squad. Holy Family won three CACC championships and reached the national quarterfinals in 2002 and 2003.

Battinieri spent the last three years coaching the junior varsity and varsity girl's basketball teams at Archbishop Prendergast in Drexel Hill, Pa.

Holy Family opens the 2008-2009 season by visiting the University of New Haven on Saturday, November 15 at 2 p.m.
