"Bernadette contributed a lot to the success of Holy Family University women's basketball," said Holy Family University's director of athletics Sandra Michael. "She is dedicated, passionate, and enthusiastic. I wish her the very best and I am proud as she begins her career as a head coach at a neighboring college. " Laukaitis spent the last 12 years with the Tigers. From 1996 until 2000, she was a point guard for Holy Family. Laukaitis scored 434 points and dished out 395 assists. She helped lead the Tigers to their first ever number one ranking in 1998. She joined the Tigers' coaching staff in 2000-01 season and spent the next eight years there. Laukaitis was responsible for the Tigers' guard play and their off-season conditioning program. In her eight seasons at Holy Family, she helped the Tigers post a 234-27 record, five Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference titles and five consecutive NCAA Division II Championship appearances (2004-08). "Bernadette has been extremely loyal and dedicated to this program and is one of the key reasons for its success," said Tigers head coach Mike McLaughlin. "I am ecstatic for her to get this job. Cabrini got itself a wonderful coach and an even better person." "I was very fortunate to have coached with such a wonderful staff and work with dedicated players at Holy Family. I would like to thank the best coach in Division II basketball, Mike McLaughlin, for all that he has done for me," said Laukaitis in a statement released by Cabrini. Laukaitis is the second consecutive women's basketball assistant coach to leave the University for head coaching position in as many years. Last year, Jen Carleton left Holy Family to fill the vacancy at conference rival Goldey-Beacom College. |
