FIVE CACC WOMEN TABBED TO DAKTRONICS ALL-REGION WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM

NEW HAVEN, CT (March 12, 2009) - Five women's
basketball players from Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) institutions have been tabbed to the
Daktronics All-East Region team in voting conducted by Sports
Information Directors throughout the region. Catherine Carr of Holy
Family University and Philadelphia University's Jessica Romano were
first team selections. Second team picks include Amelia Simmons of
Wilmington University, Althea Chambers of Dominican College and
Erin Chesnavich of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
Carr, a 6-0 sophomore forward from Bernardsville, NJ, is currently averaging 15.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per-game. The first team All-CACC pick has also added 64 assists, 28 steals and 15 blocks. Carr ranks eighth in the CACC in scoring, 13th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.05) and 15th in free throw percentage (.722). In her second season, Carr has already poured in 955 career points. Earlier this month, Carr was tabbed as the CACC player of the Year after garnering CACC and ECAC Rookie of the Year accolades last season.
Romano, a junior center from Horsham, PA, led the Lady Rams to
the 2008-09 CACC
Tournament championship and was named Tournament MVP for her
29-point, 13-rebound performance in the title game. For the
season, Romano leads the CACC in rebounding (11.0 per-game), is
second in scoring (18.7), fourth in field-goal shooting (.476) and
fifth in free-throw accuracy (.838). Both Carr and Romano now
move onto the national ballot, with a chance to be named to the
Daktronics All-America team.
Simmons, a junior forward from Wilmington, DE, leads the CACC in scoring (19.0) and was named to the All-CACC first team for the second straight season. She also stands sixth in the league in rebounding (8.6), fifth in field-goal percentage (.473) and 11th in free-throw percentage (.787). Simmons helped guide the Wildcats to the CACC Tournament Championship game as the No. 4 seed from the South Division.
Chambers, a senior guard from Yonkers, NY, was a first team All-CACC selection after ranking third in the CACC with an average of 18.0 ppg, 16th with 7.0 rpg, and ninth with 80.8-percent free-throw accuracy. She concluded the season with a 31-point, 10-rebound effort in a CACC Tournament semi-final loss to Wilmington.
Chesnavich, a junior center from Pittston, PA, ranks among league leaders in numerous categories and was named to the All-CACC first team for the second straight season. She ranks sixth in scoring (16.2), third in rebounding (9.3), eighth in free-throw percentage (.809), seventh in blocked shots (1.14) and she paced the conference in field-goal percentage (.562).
