HOLY FAMILY WOMEN ADVANCE TO NORTHEAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

March 15, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Holy Family women's basketball team upended Assumption College, 73-49, on Saturday evening to advance to the championship game of the 2007-08 NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament. The top-seeded Tigers will face No. 3 Franklin Pierce University on the championship on Monday, March 17, at 7:00 pm. Franklin Pierce defeated No. 2 Stonehill College in the other semifinal game, 68-56.

Holy Family is the first team from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) to play for an NCAA Regional Championship.

The Holy Family defense once again led the way and held Assumption to 29.6-percent (14-for-52) shooting from the field in the contest. Junior forward Melissa Brooks led the Tigers with 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting, while senior guard Kelly Killion and freshman Catherine Carr both contributed 13 points. Sophomore center Christine McCollum posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and freshman reserve Lindsey Tennett recorded 14 points and five rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

Holy Family jumped on the Greyhounds early and led by 10, 14-4, with 11:59 remaining in the first half. Carr, McCollum, Brooks and junior Lauren Boyer all had buckets during the run.

Assumption pulled to within two, 20-18, with 3:57 left in the half, but the Tigers responded with a 10-0 spurt. Carr and Killion scored five points each during the run as Holy Family led at the break, 32-21. The Tigers would lead by double-digits the rest of the way.
