HOLY FAMILY ADVANCES IN WOMEN'S NCAA REGIONAL; DOMINICAN FALLS

PHILADELPHIA, PA-Behind a 16-2 run to open the second half, the Holy Family University women's basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Women's Basketball Tournament with a win over Molloy College. The Tigers upended the Lions by a final score of 54-39. Dominican College was eliminated from the tournament with a 66-54 setback to Franklin Pierce University.

Holy Family, the top seed and host for the regional, advances to face No. 5 Assumption College on Saturday at 8:00 pm. The other semifinal contest will feature No. 2 Stonehill College against No. 3 Franklin Pierce at 6:00 pm. Both games are available to watch for FREE on www.CACC.tv. After a 27-27 tie at the half, Holy Family exploded for a 16-2 run to open the final 20 minutes of play to forge a 43-29 advantage with 11:01 on the clock. Molloy, the No. 8 seed, pulled to within eight, 47-39, with 5:43 left on a three-point-play by Kymira Woodbury. However, Molloy would not score again as the Tigers ended the game by scoring the final seven points to remain undefeated (31-0) this season. Molloy falls to 19-12.

Freshman forward Catherine Carr led Holy Family with 13 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore center Christine McCollum added a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Sophomore guard Alana Arthurs came off the bench to contribute eight points and three rebounds in 14 minutes of action. Holy Family shot just 38.8-percent (19-for-49) from the field, but held Molloy to 28.3-percent (15-for-53), including just 19.2-percent (5-for-26) in the second half.

Woodbury, the East Coast Conference Player of the Year, led Molloy with 18 points and 12 rebounds on 7-for-16 shooting.

Dominican, the No. 6 seed, shot just 25.4-percent (16-for-63) from the field in the 66-54 loss to No. 3 Franklin Pierce. The Ravens jumped out to a 8-0 lead and remained in control for the rest of the contest.

Junior forward Althea Chambers led the Chargers with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while sophomore forward Adele Laskowski added nine points and four steals. Dominican concludes the season with a 22-9 record.

Sophomore guard Johannah Leedham, the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, led the Ravens with 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Jess McPherson added 11 points and six rebounds. With the win, Franklin Pierce is now 25-5 on the season.

In the first game of the day, No. 2 Stonehill upended No. 7 Bryant, 67-58. The final game of the evening saw #5 Assumption get past #4 Bentley, by the same 67-58 final.
