NEW HAVEN, CT - Toni Jones of Goldey-Beacom College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 2. Fellow Lightning guard Jacinda Jones picked up Rookie of the Week honors.
Toni Jones, a 5-9 senior forward/guard from Lewes, DE, led Goldey-Beacom to a 3-0 week with averages of 19.0 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per-game while shooting 47.1-percent (24-of-51) from the field. She opened CACC play with a 23-point, 11-rebound effort in a 63-49 victory over Georgian Court. She also recorded 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in a win over Lock Haven University.
Jacinda Jones, a 5-8 freshman guard from Claymont, DE, helped lead the Lightning to a 3-0 week with averages of 15.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals per-game. She shot 54.5-percent (6-for-11) from 3-point range for the week, including a 5-for-6 performance against Columbia Union. She tallied 14 points and eight rebounds versus Georgian Court and added 26 points against Columbia Union.
HONORABLE MENTION
Mackenzie Lynch, Caldwell (Jr., F, 5-10, Wayne, NJ) - Posted 26 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in a win over Felician.
Kelly Killion, Holy Family (Sr. G, 5-6, Pennsauken, NJ) - Recorded 17 points, six rebounds and six assists in a victory over USP.
Amelia Simmons, Wilmington (So., F, 5-11, Wilmington, DE) - Tallied 25 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in a loss to West Chester.
Shantae Barnes, Bloomfield (Sr., F/C, 5-11, Absecon, NJ) - Helped lead BC to a win over Dominican with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.
CACC Notes
Caldwell - The Cougars opened their CACC schedule with a 99-69 win at Felician on Saturday. Junior forward Mackenzie Lynch tallied 26 points, eight rebounds, a career-high five assists and three steals in the win.
Holy Family - The Tigers are 5-0 after winning their only game of the week on December 1 at the University of the Sciences, 78-58. Guard Kelly Killion and center Christine McCollum each had 17 points in the win. Killion filled out the stats sheet with six rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal. McCollum added five rebounds, and three assists. Forward Catherine Carr had 11 points and seven boards. Holy Family is ranked 24th in the country in the first ESPN/USA Today regular season poll. Carr is leading the team in scoring with 15.2 points per game (ppg). Killion is right behind at 13.8 ppg. McCollum had 13.2 ppg and eight rebounds per game. Holy Family hosts Philadelphia University on December 3. After that, the Tigers are off for 12 days until they visit NYIT on December 15.
