NEW HAVEN, CT - Ashley Webster of Philadelphia University has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 18. Kirsty Leedham of Caldwell College has garnered Rookie of the Week accolades.

Webster, a 5-10 senior forward from Philadelphia, PA, filled the box score to the tune of 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and one steal in a season-opening 96-73 victory over NYIT. She shot 7-for-11 (.636) from the field and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Leedham, a 5-9 freshman guard from Ellesmere Port, England, averaged 20.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per-game in a 2-0 week for the Cougars. She opened her collegiate career with 21 points, five rebounds and four steals against Bloomsburg. She shot 43.8-percent (7-for-16) from 3-point range for the week.

Honorable Mention

Amelia Simmons, Wilmington (So., F, 5-11, Wilmington, DE) - Averaged 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per-game in a 2-0 week.

Shalissa Burgess, Dominican (Jr., C, 5-9, Englewood, NJ) - Led Dominican to a 2-0 week with averages of 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per-game.

Toni Jones, Goldey-Beacom (Sr., F, 5-9, Lewes, DE) - Averaged 23.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per-game in an 0-2 week for the Lightning.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars opened the season with a pair of victories at the Huskies Tip-Off Classic in Bloomsburg, Pa., defeating Bloomsburg, 76-61 on Friday before beating East Stroudsburg, 78-76 on Sunday. The results mark the first time since the 2000-01 season that Caldwell has started the year 2-0. Against East Stroudsburg, the Cougars overcame a 16-point deficit with 12 minutes left in the second half to win. Senior guard Phylicia Holmes hit a 15-foot jumper with three seconds on the clock to put Caldwell ahead 78-76. Junior forward Mackenzie Lynch tallied 15 points, all in the second half, and 10 rebounds for her 12th double-double in 23 career games at Caldwell. Freshman guard Kirsty Leedham came off the bench to lead the Cougars in scoring in both games.

Holy Family - Holy Family started its 2007-08 season by winning both games at the Golden Bear Classic at Kutztown University. On Friday (11/16), Holy Family defeated Shepherd, 62-48. Forward Christine McCollum recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, including seven offensive. Kelly Killion added 11 points in the victory. The win was head coach Mike McLaughlin's 350th in his career. The next day (11/17), Holy Family defeated host Kutztown, 58-46. Forward Catherine Carr led the way with a career-high 20 points. Forward Lauren Boyer added 13, while Killion had 12. The Tigers forced 26 turnovers. Carr was named the Classic's Most Valuable Player. Killion was selected to the All-Classic Team. This week, Holy Family will host the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday and visit St. Michael's College on Saturday.

Philadelphia - As a team at New York Tech, the Lady Rams shot 51% from the field and a superb 91% from the free-throw line. Philadelphia forced 21 fouls by the Bears, as the Lady Rams drained 31 of 34 shots from the charity stripe. Their 96 points scored against the Bears represent the program's highest total in a game since the Lady Rams' 97-60 win at Goldey-Beacom on February 16th, 2006. Next up for the team is a trip to Millersville University on Tuesday, November 20th for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off against the Marauders. Senior forward Ashley Webster needs three more blocks to move into eighth place on Philadelphia University's all-time list for blocked shots. Webster currently has 64 career rejections, two shy of former Lady Rams' star Samara Speakes, who amassed 66 in her four-year career from 2001-'05.

USP: The Devils earned their second consecutive opening game win and their third in the last four seasons with a 73-70 win over East Stroudsburg. In earning their first win ever over the Warriors, the Devils rallied from a five point deficit in the final 1:51, scoring the final eight points of the game. Sophomore Erin Chesnavich connected on 7of 8 shots from the field to score 19 points in just 15 minutes of playing time. Sisters Colleen and Mary Beth Christian combined for 21 points off the bench for the Devils vs. ESU.
