JONES CLAIMS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

NEW HAVEN, CT - Toni Jones of Goldey-Beacom College has claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolades for the week ending Sunday, February 24. Catherine Carr of Holy Family University garnered Rookie of the Week honors.

Jones, a 5-9 senior guard/forward from Lewes, DE, posted two 30-point outings last week against Wilmington and Dominican. She recorded 31 points and 13 rebounds at Wilmington and followed with 30 points and five rebounds against Dominican. she averaged 30.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per-game for the week and shot 46.0-percent (23-50) from the field. Jones was tabbed Player of the Week four times this season.


Carr, a 6-0 freshman forward from Barnardsville, NJ, averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per-game in a 2-0 week for the Tigers. She tallied 17 points, six rebounds and two steals at Nyack and contributed 13 points, four rebounds and three assists versus Chestnut Hill. Carr has been named Rookie of the Week five times this season.

Honorable Mention

Amelia Simmons, Wilmington (So., F, 5-11, Wilmington, DE) - In her only action of the week, had 19 points and nine rebounds vs. Goldey-Beacom.

Amanda Brennan, Philadelphia (Jr., G, 5-6, Stratford, NJ) - Averaged 16.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and shot 56.3% from the field and 57.9% from long range.

Jenna Beck, Chestnut Hill (So., F, 5-9, Philadelphia, PA) - Registered averages of 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per-game in two contests.

Dee Dee Smith, Felician (Sr., F, 5-9, Monticello, NY) - Averaged a double-double for the week with 10.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per-game.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - Senior guard Dana Leary scored seven points in an 80-67 win over Mercy on Feb. 20, giving her 997 points for her career. She suffered an injury midway through the first half that kept her off the court for the remainder of the game and forced her to miss Saturday's game at Philadelphia. Leary returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 27 for a home game against Nyack, when she will attempt to become the 10th Cougar women's basketball player since 1987 to reach the 1,000-point mark.

Chestnut Hill - Sophomore forward Jenna Beck posted her eighth double-double of the season in a loss to Holy Family with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Felician - On her Senior Day on Saturday, forward Dee Dee Smith recorded 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds (10 offensive) in a loss to Chestnut Hill. Felician's 39-34 home loss to Dominican on Feb. 19 is the lowest-scoring game in program history. The last time the Golden Falcons had held an opponent under 40 points was Feb. 10, 2004, vs. Wilmington (50-38 home win). Felician had never before held an opponent to fewer than 40 points and lost.

Georgian Court - Junior forward Patti Foley led all scorers against Philadelphia with 21 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds in a 69-50 loss.

Goldey-Beacom - Senior guard/forward Toni Jones is just 23 points away from the 2,000-point plateau for her career. Jones posted a pair of 30-point games last week against Wilmington (31) and Dominican (30). Meanwhile, senior guard Nicole Turoni is just 38 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

Holy Family - Holy Family won two games last week to remain undefeated. The Tigers defeated Chestnut Hill and Nyack to go to 26-0 overall and 17-0 in the CACC. Holy Family, ranked sixth in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and first in the Northeast Region, has home-court advantage in the CACC Tournament. Holy Family ends the regular season against Georgian Court on Wednesday. On Saturday, the Tigers will host the University of the Sciences in the CACC Tournament first round at 2 p.m.

Philadelphia - Junior guard Amanda Brennan led the Lady Rams to a perfect 3-0 record last week, averaging 16.3 ppg and 2.3 rpg. She shot 56.3% (18-32) from the floor including a stellar 57.9% (11-19) from three-point range.

USP - Allison Weiss recorded her 11th double-double of the season vs. Bloomfield. In the last NCAA statistics report, Erin Chesnavich is ranked 16th nationally in field goal percentage (57.0%); 50th nationally in rebounding (8.9 ppg.); and 58th in blocked shots (1.6/gm). Weiss is ranked 45th nationally in rebounds (9.2); 53rd nationally in free throw percentage (82.5%) and 74th in assists (4.3/gm.). USP as a team is ranked 38th nationally in free throw percentage (73.7%); 8th in fewest personal fouls committed per game (13.8); 59th in field goal percentage defense (37.3%), 65th in rebound margin (4.0) and 49th in blocked shots/game (3.8). Weiss became just the 12th USP player to record 200 career assists, reaching the mark against Bloomfield.
