HOLY FAMILY TOPS INITIAL NORTHEAST REGION WOMEN'S BASKETBALL POLL; DOMINICAN SEVENTH

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Holy Family University and Dominican College women's basketball teams are ranked according to the initial NCAA Division II Northeast Region Women's Basketball Poll, which was released today. Holy Family, which is currently ranked eighth in the country, stands first in the poll for the first time, while Dominican is seventh.

Holy Family is currently 18-0 this season and a perfect 9-0 in CACC action. The Tigers are one of only three remaining undefeated teams in Division II women's basketball this season. Holy Family has won 57 consecutive CACC regular-season games, with its last loss coming on February 22, 2005, against Bloomfield College.

The Tigers are led in scoring by 6-0 freshman forward Catherine Carr, who tosses in 16.3 points per-game. She stands fourth in the CACC in scoring and eighth in free-throw percentage (.805). Sophomore center Christine McCollum leads the squad with 7.5 rebounds per-game and ranks 12th in the CACC in rebounding, second in field-goal percentage (.529) and eighth in blocks per-game (1.18). Senior guard Kelly Killion leads the team with 4.3 assists per-game to rank second in the conference. She also leads the CACC with a 2.28 assist:turnover ratio.

Dominican is currently leading the CACC's North Division with an 8-1 record, along with a 14-4 overall mark. The Chargers are led by a balanced scoring attack, as six players average between 7.1 and 13.2 points per-game. Sophomore guard Adele Laskowski leads with 13.2 ppg, which ranks 11th in the CACC. Junior guard Althea Chambers leads the club with 6.7 rebounds per-game, and junior F/C Shalissa Burgess leads the team and ranks 11th in the CACC with 46.6-percent field-goal accuracy. Senior Dana Rotio leads the team and stands sixth in the CACC with 3.44 assists per-game and she paces the league with 3.28 steals per-contest. As a team, the Chargers rank second in the CACC by allowing only 56.3 points per-game. They trail only Holy Family, who allows 51.0 ppg.
