NEW HAVEN, CT-Catherine Carr of Holy Family University was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year, as the ECAC announced its All-Star team on Tuesday evening. Kelly Killion of Holy Family was named to the first team, while Carr and Amelia Simmons of Wilmington University were second team selections.
Carr, a 6-0 freshman forward from Bernardsville, NJ, garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year honors and was named the Most Valuable Player of the CACC Tournament, which the Tigers won. For the season, Carr averaged 15.2 ppg to go with 5.7 rebounds per game. She scored a school record 38 points in a victory over Wilmington on January 15. Killion, a senior point guard from Pennsauken, NJ, was a first team selection for the second straight season. Earlier this month, she was named to the Division II Bulletin Women's Basketball All-America fourth team and the Daktronics All-Northeast Region first team. Furthermore, she was named the CACC Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Killion averaged 11.8 points per-game for the Tigers and added 163 assists and 82 made 3-pointers. In the CACC, she was first in assist/turnover ratio (2.98), second in assists per game (4.8) and third in 3-pointers made per game (2.4). Killion finished fourth nationally in assist/turnover ratio. Simmons, a sophomore forward from Wilmington, DE, was a first team All-CACC selection after averaging 17.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per-game in 2007-08. She shot 45.6-percent from the floor and 77.7-percent from the free-throw line and led the Wildcats to the ECAC Tournament Championship. Johannah Leedham of Franklin Pierce was named the ECAC Player of the Year. The complete ECAC All-Star team is below.
