March 12, 2008

NEW HAVEN, CT-Five women's basketball players from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) institutions have garnered All-Northeast Region recognition from Daktronics in an announcement made today. Holy Family University senior guard Kelly Killion and Goldey-Beacom College senior forward Toni Jones were both first team selections. Philadelphia University senior forward Ashley Webster and sophomore center Jessica Romano were second team picks, along with Wilmington University sophomore forward Amelia Simmons.

Killion, who was named the CACC Player of the Year as both a junior and senior, has been named first team All-Region by Daktronics for the second straight season. The senior from Pennsauken, NJ, has led fourth-ranked Holy Family to a 30-0 record this season. The Tigers will be hosting this weekend's Division II Northeast Region Tournament as the top seed. Killion leads the CACC in assist:turnover ratio (2.90) and ranks 17th in scoring (12.1), second in assists (4.73) and third in 3-point field-goals made per-game (2.53).

Jones, a senior from Lewes, DE, led the CACC in scoring this year with an average of 21.5 points per-game, almost four points higher than her nearest competitor. She was named to the All-CACC first team concluded her career just shy of 2,000 career points. She stood eighth in the CACC in rebounding (8.3), 10th in field-goal percentage (.463), first in free-throw percentage (.856), and fourth in steals (2.04) this season.

Webster and Romano led Philadelphia to a 19-9 record this season. Romano was a first team All-CACC pick, while Webster was named to the second team. The Lady Rams will be hosting the ECAC Women's Basketball Tournament this weekend. Webster led the CACC in rebounds (10.4) and she also stood fourth in points (15.6), eighth in field-goal percentage (.472), fifth in free-throw percentage (.811) and seventh in steals (1.93). Romano stood second in the CACC in scoring with 17.6 ppg, third with 9.9 rpg and 11th with 45.7-percent accuracy from the field.

Simmons, a 5-11 sophomore from Wilmington, DE, was named to the All-CACC first team after averaging 17.2 ppg, 9.7 rpg and 1.31 blocks per-game. She was the CACC Rookie of the Year in 2006-07. Simmons and the Wildcats are the top seed in this weekend's ECAC Women's Basketball Tournament.
