CLEARY RESIGNS AS WILMINGTON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH

NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University Director of Athletics, Frank Aiello, announced the resignation of Bill Cleary as Head Women's Basketball Coach, effective the end of May.

After five seasons as head coach, Cleary is leaving the program because of a new job commitment. Bill has accepted the position of Head Women's Basketball Coach at Bloomsburg University, a NCAA Division II institution that competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

"Over the years, Bill has been a hard-working and loyal friend to Wilmington University and the student-athletes he has recruited," said Aiello. "He will be missed by all here at the school, and we wish him the best for the future."

Cleary made his debut as head coach of the Wildcats in 2003-2004 at the age of 27. During his tenure at Wilmington, he compiled a 56-85 record and led Wilmington three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) playoff appearances. Bill guided the Wildcats to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship this past season.

Cleary is a 1998 graduate of Villanova University and earned his master's degree from Georgia State University. Prior to coming to Wilmington, Bill served as an assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Towson University. He also served as a Graduate Assistant at Georgia Tech for the Men's Basketball program.

"I will always be grateful to the administration of Wilmington University for giving me the opportunity to get my start in the coaching profession and would like to thank them for the support they have given me during my time here", Cleary said. "After being here for over five years, making this decision to leave was very difficult, but this is a tremendous opportunity and challenge that I am looking forward to."
