HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY TOPS CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PRE-SEASON POLL

November 8, 2006

NEW HAVEN, CT - Holy Family University has been selected to win the 2006-07 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball regular-season championship in a pre-season poll released today. The Tigers were picked first on nine of the 12 ballots and finished with 141 points. The poll was conducted by the head coaches in the conference.

The Tigers return three starters, reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament and compiled a 29-3 overall record and a 24-0 mark in the CACC last year. Senior center Megan Bauer, the 2005-06 CACC Co-Player of the Year, and junior point guard Kelly Killion return to lead the Tigers. Bauer averaged 13.6 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per-game to rank first in the conference in blocked shots, second in rebounding and 10th in scoring. Killion contributed 12.2 points and 4.4 assists per-game, which ranked fourth in the CACC. The Tigers also welcome back last year's CACC Rookie of the Year, Melissa Brooks, and will be guided by the returning coach of the Year, Mike McLaughlin.

Philadelphia University finished second in the poll with 131 points and received two first-place nods. The Rams went 22-7 last season and 19-5 in their first season as a member of the CACC. The CACC's leading scorer and rebounder from last year return to lead the Rams in seniors Meg Abele (18.2 ppg) and Alisha Ferguson (11.2 rpg).

USP and Bloomfield College tied for third in the poll with 110 points. The Devils, who won the CACC Tournament Championship last year, claimed one first-place vote after going 23-8 last year and 19-5 in the CACC. The Lady Deacons went 20-9 overall and 17-7 in conference play.

Dominican College was fifth with 95 points after compiling a 19-13 overall record and a 16-8 finish in the CACC. The rest of the poll was rounded out by, in order, Goldey-Beacom (81), Post (70), Felician (49), Caldwell (48), Georgian Court (36), Wilmington (33) and Nyack (32).
