HOLY FAMILY CLAIMS TOP SEED FOR CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

February 24, 2007

NEW HAVEN, CT ? Holy Family University has claimed the top seed for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Tournament, as the regular-season wrapped up Saturday evening. The Tigers will host #8 Post University in an opening round game on Wednesday, February 28, at 7:30 pm. Defending tournament champion USP will serve as the third seed.

Holy Family is currently ranked 10th in the nation according to this week's USA Today/ESPN Top 25 poll. The Tigers concluded the regular-season 25-2 overall and a perfect 22-0 in the CACC. The Tigers have won 48 consecutive CACC regular-season games and their last loss to a conference team was against USP in last season's tournament championship game. The Tigers defeated Post by scores of 75-48 on Dec. 2 and 91-60 on Jan. 20

Philadelphia will be the second seed after finishing with a 16-6 conference record to go with an 18-8 overall mark. This is the first season the Rams are eligible to participate in the CACC Tournament after joining the conference last year. The Rams will host #7 Wilmington College (13-14, 10-12) on Wednesday. In the last meeting between these teams, the Wildcats earned a last-second, 69-67 win in New Castle on Feb. 1. Philadelphia won the first meeting on Dec. 30, 72-57.

USP is the third seed after going 15-7 in CACC play and 18-9 overall. The Devils won last year's tournament title with a 66-57 triumph over Holy Family. USP was also the tournament champion in 2003-04. The Devils will welcome #6 Bloomfield College to Bobby Morgan Arena on Wednesday. USP swept the Deacons in two meetings this year by scores of 64-53 on Dec. 19 and 71-56 on Jan. 7.

Also clinching a home first-round game was Dominican after a win over Philadelphia Saturday. The Chargers are 19-8 overall and finished 15-7 in the CACC. The squad will host #5 Goldey-Beacom College (17-10, 14-8) in the quarterfinal round. GBC won the first meeting this year, 68-52, in Wilmington on Dec. 2. Dominican won the last meeting on Jan. 20, 83-72.

The semifinals and finals will be hosted by Dominican College on Coach Baxter Court on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3. Friday's semifinal games will be noon and 2:00 pm starts. Saturday's championship game will tip off at 1:00 pm.
