HOLY FAMILY MOVES TO 15TH IN USA TODAY/ESPN TOP-25 POLL

January 31, 2007

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Despite seeing its 11-game winning streak come to an end Sunday afternoon, the Holy Family Women's Basketball team jumped up one spot in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll which was released Tuesday evening.

The Tigers rose to 15th, up from 16th one week ago. They received 249 total points in the poll, and this marks their highest ranking in the poll to date.

Currently 17-2 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, the Tigers were ranked second in the Northeast Region last week. The Tigers 11-game win streak was snapped by Bentley, 65-62 on Sunday in greater Boston.

The Tigers are now the third highest ranked team in the top 25 from the Northeast Region. Southern Connecticut State University, the top-ranked team in the region, is third in the latest poll. American International College is now 14th, while Stonehill fell to 24th in the poll. Holy Family is the lone Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference squad in the poll.

Heading into this week, Holy Family is still ranked among the leaders in Division II in several statistical categories. The Tigers still lead all of Division II in field-goal percentage defense, allowing their opponents to shoot just 30.4 percent from the field. The Tigers are also third in scoring margin, winning games by an average of 22.7 points and are seventh in scoring defense, allowing on average 50.6 points per game.

Individually, starting guard Kelly Killion (Jr./Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) is leading the team with 13 points per game. She is one of four Tigers to average double figures in scoring on the season.

Holy Family will travel to Georgian Court on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 tip.
