NEW HAVEN, CT - Cherrise Graham of Goldey-Beacom College has earned women's basketball Player of the Week accolades from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for the week ending Sunday, January 28th. Adele Laskowski of Dominican College and Erin Chesnavich of USP have been named co-Rookies of the Week.
Graham, a 5-8 senior guard from Philadelphia, PA, led the Lightning to a 3-0 week with averages of 23.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per-game. She shot 54.7-percent (23-of-42) from the field and 90-percent (18-for-20) from the free-throw line. Her best performance of the week came at Wilmington, where she poured in 34 points and added 12 rebounds. She added 25 points and six rebounds at Bloomfield.
Both Laskowski and Chesnavich helped lead their teams to 3-0 weeks. Laskowski, a 5-9 freshman forward from Wayne, NJ, averaged 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per-game and committed just two turnovers in three games. She tallied 19 points and three rebounds at Post and also registered 14 points and 10 rebounds versus Wilmington.
Chesnavich, a 6-2 freshman center from Pittston, PA, averaged 12.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 0.67 blocks per-game. She tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds at Caldwell and had 17 points and seven rebounds versus Wilmington.
Honorable Mention
Shelby Rance, USP - Averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in a 3-0 week.
Jackie Tracey-Spitaleri - Averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.7 assists in a 3-0 week. Scored her 1,000th career-point against Wilmington.
CACC Notes
Felician - Senior guard Terry Sues scored a career-high 12 points in Felician's loss at Georgian Court on Saturday. She was making only her second career start and played a career-high 32 minutes. The Golden Falcons matched a season low with 14 turnovers on Saturday.
Georgian Court - The Lions travel to Wilmington College Tuesday night for their second meeting of the season. The Wildcats defeated GCU in their first meeting, 72-62. Freshman Sophia Iloh led Georgian Court with 17 points while Lobbato and Stephanie Longdo scored 12 apiece. The Lions are looking to extend their CACC win streak to two games.
Holy Family - The Tigers have averaged 86.6 points in their last three-conference games. The 93 points scored against Nyack were the most points the Tigers have scored this season.
Philadelphia - Senior center Alisha Ferguson leads NCAA Division II in rebounding while fellow senior Meg Abele ranks second in the nation in scoring. Head Coach Tom Shirley saw two of his players eclipse the 1,000-point plateau last week ? senior forward Nicole Mechell in a loss at Holy Family University on January 24th and Ferguson in the win at Post University on January 27th. A third player, Abele, is also closing in on the mark, needing just 68 points to join the exclusive club in less than two seasons with Philadelphia University. A transfer from Iona College prior to the 2005-06 season, Abele also scored 725 points in two seasons with the Gaels.
USP - USP has now won eight straight games overall and nine straight CACC games. Rashanna Edwards recorded 23 assists in this week's three games (7.7/gm) and has 41 assists in the Devils last five games, moving her into a tie for third place on the Devils all-time list with 378 for her career. In the latest NCAA statistics release, the Devils are ranked fifth nationally in free throw percentage (78.4%) and 13th nationally in blocked shots per game (4.7). Shelby Rance is ranked 29th nationally in free throw percentage (86.3)and 75th in scoring (16.3) while Lori Sedina is ranked 47th nationally in blocked shots (1.6/gm). Edwards is ranked 60th in assists (4.4) and Allison Weiss 86th in rebounds (8.3). Weiss averaged 10.7 rebounds this week (32 in three games).
