PHILADELPHIA'S ABELE TABBED CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, CT - Meg Abele of Philadelphia University has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 31. Amelia Simmons of Wilmington College has earned Rookie of the Week honors for the third time.

Abele, a 5-11 senior foward from Lititz, PA, led the Rams to a 2-0 mark in conference play last week by averaging 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per-game. She recorded 24 points, four rebounds and two steals in a win over Wilmington College and notched 19 points, five rebounds and four steals against Georgian Court University. Abele has been named Player of the Week twice this season.

Simmons, a 5-11 freshman guard/forward from Wilmington, DE, averaged 21 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per-game in a 1-2 week. She tallied 26 points and nine rebounds in a win over Northwood during a holiday trip to Florida. Simmons has earned Rookie of the Week honors three times thus far in 2006-07.

Honorable Mention

Cherrise Graham, Goldey-Beacom - Registered 28 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Mansfield.

CACC Notes

Goldey-Beacom - The Lightning's win over Mansfield University already ties last season's total number of wins at six. The 6-4 start is the best start in the program's history.

Holy Family - Holy Family has now won two straight games versus the Northeast-10, after defeating Saint Michael's on Saturday.

Philadelphia - Senior center Alisha Ferguson has registered a team-high seven double-doubles through nine contests, including 18 points and 16 boards in a 72-67 win over Wilmington on December 30.

USP - With a 4-4 performance from the FT line vs. St. Michael's, Shelby Rance moved into second place on the Devils' all-time FT made list with 368 for her career. Rance also moved into 7th place on USP's all-time steals list with three steals vs. Bloomfield. She now has 169 for her career. Rashanna Edwards moved into fifth place on the Devils' all-time assists leaders with eight assists over the last three games, and now has 320 for her career. Lori Sedina also moved up the ranks on USP's all-time assist chart moving into ninth place with 226 for her career. Sedina also moved into fourth place on USP's all-time blocked shot list with five blocks over the last three games, giving her 79 for her career.
