HOLY FAMILY WOMEN'S HOOPS ANNOUNCES RECRUITING CLASS

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Holy Family Women's Basketball coach Mike McLaughlin has announced his recruiting class for the upcoming season.

The four players will join a team that finished 29-3 last season and went a perfect 24-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The team also advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional after defeating Pace University in the first round.

Two players are transfers from Division I programs, while the other two are local products.

Shanea Williams comes to Philadelphia from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she played in 13 games. The 5-10 guard averaged 12 points, five assists and five rebounds per contest at Montrose Christian High School. "A strong wing player, she has the ability to score off the dribble," McLaughlin said. "She is able to play all three positions, can get to the basket and score in traffic."

The second transfer is Busayo Ayedale from Etobicoke, Ontario. She comes to Philadelphia from University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where she redshirted last season. She averaged 11 points and 12 rebounds per game as a senior at St. Basil the Great College School in Toronto. "She is a post player who will add depth and strength to the lineup," McLaughlin said.

"She is a very good rebounder, who runs the floor very well." She will have four years of eligibility remaining at Holy Family.

The first of two freshmen is Christine McCollum. McCollum, a 6-1 guard/forward from Abington, averaged 11 points and eight rebounds per game during her senior season at St. Basil's Academy. "A versatile offensive player, she can score facing the basket up to three-point range or with her back to the basket," McLaughlin said. "She has tremendous court awareness and basketball knowledge."

Jenna Johnson rounds out the recruiting class. A 5-7 guard from Neshaminy, she was a four-year starter at Nazareth. She averaged 14 points per game during her senior season, which earned her MVP honors from the Northeast News-Gleaner.

"She is a guard with terrific ability to shoot the three," McLaughlin said. "She is a hard working, tough player who will add a scoring threat from the wing."

Holy Family opens up its 2006-07 season on Sunday, November 19 with a non-conference home game against NYIT at 2 p.m.
