THREE CACC WOMEN NAMED TO PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER ACADEMIC ALL-AREA BASKETBALL TEAM

April 9, 2006

NEW HAVEN, CT - Leah Shumoski of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia has been named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Basketball Performer of the Year. Meanwhile, USP's Shelby Rance and Holy Family's Jennifer Andrews were also members of the publication's first-ever Academic All-Area team.

The team is voted upon by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Shumoski, who was recently named to the Daktronics Division II First Team All-Northeast Region team and the CACC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Year, is a three-time First Team All-CACC selection. She also earned CACC Player of the Year honors in 2004. The senior forward helped lead USP to their second CACC Tournament Championship and an NCAA regional berth. She is the Devils' all-time leading scorer with 1,924 career points.

Rance, who was a Daktronics Division II Second Team All-Northeast Region pick, is a two-time All-CACC first team selection. The junior guard helped lead USP to their second CACC Tournament Championship, scoring 61 points in the three playoff games and earning Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. She is the Devils' second all-time leading scorer with 1,462 career points.

Andrews, Holy Family's lone senior, averaged 6.8 points per-game and 4.2 rebounds per contest. She played and started in all 32 games for the Tigers, who finished with a 29-3 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Northeast Regional Tournament.

Away from the court, Andrews has been the team's community service leader. She has led a community service project at the Lupus Loop in both 2004 and 2005. In the summer of 2005, she did a missions trip to India. She also was honored by Holy Family University with MLK Community Service Award.
