Georgian Court's Rachel Ruch Honored as NFCA/Louisville Slugger Division II National Player of the Week
STARKVILLE, Miss. (April 12, 2012) - Georgian Court University softball senior Rachel Ruch (Edison, N.J.) received national accolades Wednesday with her selection as the Louisville Slugger Division II National Player of the Week for games played April 2-8.
Ruch, also the CACC Co-Player of the Week, went an astounding 15-for-20 last week over six games for the Lions with 14 RBI, nine runs, six stolen bases, four doubles, two home runs, two walks and a triple. For the week, the senior hit .750, had an on-base percentage of .773 and a slugging percentage of 1.250.
The Edison, N.J., native and reigning CACC Player of the Year played a key role in all six of Georgian Courts’ wins last week, but no performance was bigger than the first game of the week against Felician. In the contest, Ruch hit for the cycle and reached base safely in each of her four at bats.
So far this season, Ruch is batting .431 and leads the team in
doubles with 12. She also has 43 RBI and a slugging
percentage of .646.
The last GCU softball student-athlete to earn national accolades was former pitching ace, Diana Sansevera, who was named NFCA National Pitcher of the Week on 4/20/11.
