RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Nov. 21, 2011) – In what has quickly become an a highly-anticipated end to its fall season, the Felician College softball team hosted its second annual Alumnae Game on October 8 at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Approximately 20 former Golden Falcon players took part in the event, which drew more than 80 spectators. Participants played in a full-length game, with the current team defeating the alumnae team, and then enjoyed a catered dinner.
"In only its second year, our alumnae game has become more like a family reunion and is an event that everyone truly looks forward to," said Felician coach Lori Kwiatkowski, who instituted the game in 2010. "The opportunity for our new players to put faces with the names of the women who paved the road for Felician softball is priceless. I am greatly looking forward to next year's event and continuing to build this new tradition."
The coaching staff has many people to thank for making the event a success, according to Kwiatkowski.
"Josie's Pizzeria of Lyndhurst provided an INCREDIBLE dinner," she said. "We would also like to thank Mazur's Bakery and the Lyndhurst Pastry Shop for donating delicious desserts. Special thanks goe s to the families and friends of our players and alumnae who came from near and far, and to Sister 'T' from Campus Ministry for attending. The coaching staff is also very grateful for all the people who were willing to assist with the breakdown and clean-up!"
The Golden Falcons' 2012 regular season begins on March 1 at Concordia University-Irvine, as part of the team's 10-day spring break trip to southern California.
"God has blessed this team with a phenomenal group of young ladies who are also highly talented ballplayers," Kwiatkowski said. "We are young and ambitious, and if the girls continue to be as committed to each other and the program as they have shown, it will be an exciting season."
