Bloomfield College Head Softball Coach Rocco Constantino would like to announce commitments of four junior college transfers into the Deacons' softball program. Amanda Svenson, Tracey Stern and Samantha Dugan, all from 2010 National Champion Brookdale Community College have committed to BC along with Brandi Bodin, a catcher from #2 Ridgewater College in Minnesota.
“We graduated some of the most recognized and accomplished seniors that I have had here at Bloomfield,” said Constantino. “I felt like it was important that we had to get top players from highly successful programs in order to try to make up for that loss. I feel like we did just that with this group of players.”
Stern, Svenson and Dugan led Brookdale to an 87-19 record over their two-year careers, including an NJCAAA Division III National Championship in 2010. Svenson was a 2010 1stTeam All American, Stern was named 2nd Team All-American after finishing 3nd in the country in home runs, and Dugan was named to the All-National Tournament Team after a stellar performance at nationals. Bodin was an All-Region catcher in 2010 after batting .420 with 6 homers.
In 2011 Stern completed a remarkable career at Brookdale in which she and Svenson were two of the primary hitters in the country for Division III junior colleges. Stern finished her career at Brookdale with a .404 average (137-339) with 22 home runs and 112 RBIs. In addition to her gaudy offensive statistics, Stern also was a top defender for Brookdale. Stern is a terrific defensive first baseman and also has experience at shortstop.
Stern finished the 2011 season with 11 homers and a .422 average. She was named 1stTeam All-Region and 1st Team All-America by the NFCA.
Svenson was Brookdale's top outfielder the past two seasons and along with Stern was the premiere power hitter in their lineup. For her career, she batted .380 (127-334) with 16 homers. Svenson was a top run producer for Brookdale as she scored 79 runs and drove in 79 runs in her career. A great defensive outfielder with excellent range and a strong arm, Svenson recorded 6 outfield assists in her career.
In 2011, Svenson had 61 hits for Brookdale in recording a .389 batting average. She tied for the team lead in homers with 8 and drove in 46 runs.
A mainstay in Brookdale's infield, Dugan played a vital role as the team's starting 2ndbaseman over the past two seasons. A strong defender and baserunner with good speed, Dugan was an effective offensive player for Head Coach Bo Scannapieco over her career.
Dugan hit .349 (104-298) during her two years at Brookdale with 29 doubles and 88 runs scored. In 2011, Dugan was 3rd on the team with 15 doubles and 52 runs while batting .307 (49-140).
Stern, Svenson and Dugan received multiple All-County honors during their high school careers playing in Monmouth County.
Bodin comes to Bloomfield after leading Ridgewater (Minnesota) to an appearance in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in 2011. As the team's everyday catcher, Bodin batted .525 (85-158) this season with 65 RBI and 64 runs scored. Bodin showed tremendous power this season as 51 of her 83 hits went for extra bases. For her career, Bodin batted .448 with 14 home runs.
Bodin led Ridgewater to a 55-22 record over the past two years and was named 1st Team All-America by the NJCAA. She also was named to the All-State, All Region and All-Tournament 1st Teams this year. Bodin was also a 1st Team All-Region selection in 2010.
“I am very excited to add these four players to our team next year,” said Constantino. “Aside from their obvious softball talents, they come from very well respected national programs with excellent coaches. All four players come to us with the highest recommendations as players, students and teammates. I feel like they will fit right in and make us a lot better in 2012.”
