PATROCINIO, KARASEK AND CANNATA PICK UP SOFTBALL WEEKLY AWARDS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Kristina Patrocinio of Concordia College has picked up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Week honors on Monday, March 7. Wilmington University's Heather Karasek was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, while Concodia's Rachel Cannata was the choice for Rookie of the Week.
Patrocinio, a 5-3 sophomore outfielder from Edison, N.J., hit
.417 with 17 runs batted in, three home
runs, three triples and four runs scored in a 4-4 opening week for
the Clippers. She homered and drove in four runs in a
season-opening win over Saint Anselm. She also knocked in five runs
with a triple and a home run in a win over Queens.
Karasek, a 5-4 senior from Linthicum, Md., allowed only three hits and no earned runs (allowed one unearned run) in a complete game victory over Ferris State. She fanned five batters.
Cannata, a freshman pitcher/utility player from Waldwick, N.J., had an outstanding first collegiate week both at the plate and in the circle. She went 1-1 as a pither with a 0.82 ERA in two starts. At the plate, she hit .419 with seven runs scored, three RBI and a pair of doubles. She went 4-for-5 with three runs scored in her first collegiate game against Saint Anselm.
Honorable Mention
Kelsey Cutler, Georgian Court (Jr., 3B, Gloucester City, NJ) - Hit .368 in 12 games with nine RBI.
Katrina Pistilli, Dominican (Jr., RHP, Staten Island, NY) - Went 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA in four appearances. Hurled a complete game shutout against Millersville with five strikeouts.
CACC Notes
Concordia - The Clippers opened their season in Clermont, Fl at the National Training Center. With wins over St. Anselm, University of Mary (ND), Queens and Gannon, the Clippers return to New York 4-4. The team will head to NYIT on Wednesday, March 9th.
Georgian Court - The Lions posted a 3-9 record last week at the NTC Games in Clermont, FL. GCU competed against four nationally-ranked squads last week, which included #1 Valdosta State, #18 Rollins College, #16 University of Tampa and #11 Winona State. Melissa DePalma (Sr.) collected two RBI in both the Queens (NY) and Lake Superior State victories on 3/3 as well in the game vs. #18 University of Tampa on 3/5. Selina Santillo (Jr.) a junior college transfer, smacked her first GCU homer in a 7-5 victory over Queens (NY) on 3/3. Georgian Court’s run vs. nationally-ranked opponents continues on Saturday when they travel to #19 Dowling College for a 12PM doubleheader.
