2010 Softball Weekly Award Winners

March 8

Player of the Week: Rachel Ruch, Georgian Court (So., 2B, Edison, N.J.) - Hit .511 over 12 games with 18 RBI, 15 runs scored, three home runs and two stolen bases. She had eight multi-hit games, including four hits against Walsh. She homered against Gannon, Bellarmine and #13 Saginaw Valley, and drove in four runs vs. Saint Rose.

Pitcher of the Week: Diana Sansevera, Georgian Court (Jr., RHP, Manalapan, N.J.) - Collected five wins and two saves over nine appearances to start the season. She allowed 13 runs in 42.1 innings of work (2.15 ERA) with 31 strikeouts. She threw a shutout against Lake Erie and allowed only one run against Northwood in 10 innings.

Rookie of the Week: Delaney Childers, Dominican (Fr., LHP, 5-7, Johnstown, Ohio) - Picked up three wins as a pitcher with a 2.15 ERA and also hit .429 with 11 RBI and 13 runs scored at the plate in 12 games. She drove in five runs in a win over American International and hurled a no-hitter against Concordia.

March 15

Co-Players of the Week: Kyrie Timbrook, Caldwell (Sr., 1B, Los Gatos, Cal.) and Lauren DeGrushe, Felician (Jr., INF/C, Guttenberg, N.J.) - Both put up similar numbers last week. Timbrook hit .438 over four games, while DeGrushe hit .462 in five contests. Both drove in seven runs, had two doubles and hit one home run.

Pitcher of the Week: Brianne Moore, Bloomfield (Sr., RHP, Clifton, NJ) - Went 3-0 in the opening week of the season for BC with a 0.33 earned-run average. Allowed only one earned run in 21.0 innings of work. She has not allowed an earned run in her last 16 innings.

Rookie of the Week: Justine Mateo, Felician (Fr., CF, Jersey City, N.J.) - Hit .462 in five games with seven runs scored, four RBI, two triples, one double and six stolen bases. She drove in three runs and scored twice in a victory over Upper Iowa.

March 22

Player of the Week: Kyrie Timbrook, Caldwell (Sr., 1B, Los Gatos, Cal.) - Batted .429 with 12 hits, 10 runs batted in, two  doubles, a home run and five runs scored in 10 games. In a 7-4 victory over Bridgeport, hit her second home run of the season and had three RBI while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Capped off the week by driving in the game's only run in a 1-0 win over defending East Region champion Le Moyne College.

Pitcher of the Week: Brittany Pulido, Caldwell (Jr., RHP, Ojai, Cal.) - Was dominating in each of her four starts last week, compiling a 4-0 record with an earned run average of 0.54. Pitched the Cougars to victories over Bridgeport and Adelphi, allowing just one run in each win. Pulido then blanked Franklin Pierce 3-0 on three hits, and shut down Le Moyne 1-0 on four hits for her first two shutouts of the season.

Rookie of the Week: Kourtney Wilson, Caldwell (Fr., RHP, Islip, N.Y.) - Went 3-1 with a 1.08 ERA while striking out 20 and walking only three in 26.0 innings of work. Pitched four complete games and led Caldwell to wins over Adelphi, Minnesota State-Moorhead and St. Michael's. Against St. Michael's, Wilson fanned nine batters and allowed an unearned run on five hits in a 7-1 victory.

March 29

Player of the Week: Lindsay Watson, Wilmington (Sr., 3B, 5-5, Georgetown, Del.) - Hit .591 in a 4-2 week with 11 runs scored and  a .640 on-base percentage. Scored at least one run in every game. Crossed the plate twice against Philadelphia, Nyack and Bowie State. Hit four doubles and knocked in four runs for the week. She went 3-for-4 with three doubles and three runs scored in a win over Nyack.

Pitcher of the Week: Diana Sansevera, Georgian Court (Jr., RHP, Manalapan, N.J.) - Went 3-0 last week with three complete games and 40 strikeouts in 21.0 innings of work. Allowed only 15 hits and two earned runs for a 0.67 ERA. Fanned 13 batters in CACC victories over Holy Family and Bloomfield.  

Rookie of the Week: Delaney Childers, Dominican (Fr., LHP, 5-7, Johnstown, Ohio) - Went 3-0 in four appearances last week with a 0.89 ERA. In 23.2 innings, allowed three earned runs, 17 hits and fanned 21 with only two walks. She pitched a complete game in a 12-inning victory over rival Caldwell. Also earned wins against Philadelphia and Pace.

April 5

Player of the Week: Jessica Comiskey, Georgian Court (Jr., OF, Ewing, NJ) - Led GCU to a 5-1 week with a .476 batting average, three home runs, eight runs scored, six RBI, three doubles and one triple. Blasted a lead-off home run against Nyack. Collected two hits in each of the first five games of the week, and scored three runs against both Nyack and USP.

Pitcher of the Week: Jody Searfoss, Holy Family (Sr., RHP, 5-9, Weatherly, PA) - Went 2-0 last week with two complete game shutouts, including a no-hitter against Chestnut Hill. She notched 10 strikeouts against the Griffins. Also blanked #20 Molloy by allowing only four hits and fanning 10. 

Rookie of the Week: Courtney Spina, USP (Fr., RHP, 5-5, Thornton, PA) - Threw an 8-inning complete game shutout against Georgian Court and allowed only six hits while fanning nine and not walking a batter. It was USP’s first win over GCU since 2005.

April 12

Player of the Week: Brooke Hull, Georgian Court (So., DP, Nazareth, Pa.) - Drove in 15 runs in six games last week, including an 8-RBI performance against Goldey-Beacom. Hit three home runs on the week, scored seven times and hit two doubles. Also homered against Dowling and earned a 1.167 slugging percentage for the week.

Pitcher of the Week: Brittany Pulido, Caldwell (Jr., RHP, Ojai, Cal.) - Went 4-1 last week with a 1.17 ERA. She allowed five runs and 18 hits in 30.0 innings of work. In the final four outings of week, she allowed just 13 hits and one run in 21.0 innings. Collected shutouts against Concordia and NYIT and surrendered only one run in a tough 1-0 loss to Dowling.

Rookie of the Week: Erin Summers, USP (Fr., OF, 5-8, Pittman, N.J.) - Hit .524 with 12 RBI, four homers and six runs scored in a 7-3 week.  She smashed two home runs in a game 1 win over Wilmington, and hit another in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of the Wildcats. She also hit a long ball against Millersville.

April 19

Player of the Week: Cara Piasecki, Dominican College (Sr., IF, Monmouth Junction, N.J.) - Hit .727 in a 4-0 week with 10 runs scored, eight RBI, two home runs and one double. In a double-header sweep of Georgian Court, she did not record an out, going 4-for-4 in the two games with five runs and three RBI. Scored at least two runs in all four games. Furthermore, she went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI and a home run in a game 2 win over Nyack.

Pitcher of the Week: Jody Searfoss, Holy Family University (Sr., RHP, Weatherly, Pa.) - Went 3-0 in three starts last week with a 0.35 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 20.0 innings of work. Fanned 17 in a 2-hit shutout against Nyack. Surrendered only seven hits and one earned run all week.

Co-Rookies of the Week: Ashley Corrao, Dominican College (Fr., C., Staten Island, N.Y.) and Danielle McDevitt, Holy Family University (Fr., SS, Williamstown, N.J.) both hit .538 last week. Corrao drove in seven runs and scored four times, while McDevitt scored seven times and knocked in four runs. Corrao drove in two runs in both games against Georgian Court and went 3-for-4 with one run and two RBI in a game 1 win over Nyack. McDevitt collected a pair of 4-hit games last week from her lead-off spot, against Post and USP.

April 26

Player of the Week: Lauren DeGrushe, Felician College (Jr., IF, Guttenberg, N.J.) - Hit .632 in six games last week for the  Golden Falcons, with two home runs, one double, one triple and nine runs batted in while crossing the plate five times. She also earned a 1.105 slugging percentage. Went 6-for-7 with one run and three RBI in a double-header against Holy Family. Blasted home runs against Bloomfield and Nyack.

Pitcher of the Week: Ali Schmidt, Philadelphia University (So., RHP, Cordova, Md.) - Became the first pitcher in school history to throw a perfect game against Chestnut Hill, then turned the trick again just four days later against Nyack. For the week, she went 5-0 with a 1.36 earned-run average with 51 strikeouts in 33.0 innings of work.

Rookie of the Week: Delaney Childers, Dominican College (Fr., OF/P, Johnstown, Ohio) - Came through at the plate and as a pitcher for the Lady Chargers last week. At the plate, she hit .452 with nine runs batted in, 10 runs scored, five doubles and one home run. Went 4-1 with a 0.68 ERA as a pitcher, fanning 27 batters in 30.2 innings of action.

May 4

Player of the Week: Marisa Tamez, Caldwell College (So., 3B, Fountain Valley, Calif.) - Hit .533 in a 5-1 week for the Cougars with eight runs scored, four runs batted in, one double and one home run. Went 6-for-7 in a double-header sweep of Queens.

Pitcher of the Week: Kourtney Wilson, Caldwell College (Fr., P, Islip, N.Y.) - Went 3-0 last week with a 0.39 ERA, allowing only 14 hits and one run in 18.0 innings of work. Recorded wins over nationally-ranked C.W. Post, Queens and Philadelphia and hurled a 2-hit shutout against C.W. Post.

Rookie of the Week: Erin Summers, USP (Fr., OF, 5-5, Pitman, N.J.) - Was crucial in USP securing the 8th and final seed for the CACC Tournament. Hit .500 for the week, including 5-for-8 with two runs and one RBI in a double-header at Dominican. The game 1 victory over the Chargers clinched a playoff birth for the Devils.

May 10

Player of the Week: Cara Piasecki, Dominican College (Sr., IF, Monmouth Junction, N.J.) - Hit .530 with a .600 on-base percentage at the CACC Tournament with six runs scored and one RBI. Hit a home run in the championship game over Georgian Court and registered two hits in four of the five games.

Pitcher of the Week: Kourtney Wilson, Caldwell College (Fr., P, Islip, N.Y.) - Had three solid performances last week at the CACC Tournament. Went 1-0 in three appearances and did not allow an earned run in 12.0 innings of work. Surrendered only six hits and two walks while fanning eight.

Rookie of the Week:   Julie Plante, Dominican College (Fr., SS, Swansea, Mass.) - Hit .412 in five CACC Tournament games with five runs scored, five runs batted in and two doubles. In two championship round games versus GCU, she went 5-for-8 with two runs and two RBI.
