PIASECKI, SEARFOSS NAMED CACC SOFTBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Cara Piasecki of Dominican College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 18. Holy Family University's Jody Searfoss garnered Pitcher of the Week honors. Dominican's Ashley Corrao and Holy Family's Danielle McDevitt were named co-Rookies of the Week.

Piasecki, a senior infielder from Monmouth Junction, N.J., hit .727 in a 4-0 week with 10 runs scored, eight RBI, two home runs and one double. In a double-header sweep of Georgian Court, she did not record an out, going 4-for-4 in the two games with five runs and three RBI. She scored at least two runs in all four games. Furthermore, she went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI and a home run in a game 2 win over Nyack.

Searfoss, a senior right-hander from Weatherly, Pa., went 3-0 in three starts last week with a 0.35 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 20.0 innings of work. She fanned 17 in a 2-hit shutout against Nyack. She surrendered only seven hits and one earned run all week.

Corrao, a freshman catcher from Staten Island, N.Y., and McDevitt, a freshman shortstop from Williamstown, N.J., both hit .538 last week. Corrao drove in seven runs and scored four times, while McDevitt scored seven times and knocked in four runs. Corrao drove in two runs in both games against Georgian Court and went 3-for-4 with one run and two RBI in a game 1 win over Nyack. McDevitt collected a pair of 4-hit games last week from her lead-off spot, against Post and USP.

Honorable Mention

Jaime Lorenzo, Concordia (Jr., SS, Eastchester, NY) - Hit .667 with nine runs and seven RBI in a 4-0 week. Hit two triples.

Danielle Genovese, Caldwell (Sr., SS, Livingston, NJ) - Hit .471 in a 5-1 week with two HR’s, seven runs scored and five RBI.

Ali Schmidt, Philadelphia (So., RHP, Cordova, MD) - Went 4-0 last week with a 1.64 ERA. Fanned 23 in 22 innings of work.

Brittany Pulido, Caldwell (Jr., RHP, Ojai, CA) - Went 3-1 with a 0.62 ERA last week. Allowed two runs and one walk in 22.2 IP. 

Sammie Jo Garofalo, Georgian Court (Jr., Wrightstown, NJ) - Hit .500 with six RBI, three runs scored and three doubles last week.  

CACC Notes

Bloomfield - Brianne Moore recently became the winningest pitcher in the Division II era at BC with her 35th career win, surpassing 2009 graduate Fauna Ryerson. Bloomfield College went 3-3 in CACC play last week and now stands at 9-9 in conference. The Deacons used a 4-run rally to erase a 4-0, 7th inning deficit against Post. Bianka Cosme had a two out, two RBI single to tie the game and Krystina Poloni won it in the 8th on a single. The Deacons swept USP behind strong pitching efforts from Moore and Ashleigh Williams. Williams hurled her first career shutout, scattering four hits in the win. Poloni provided the big hit in game 1 with a 2 run homer and Daliana Perez hit her first career homer in game 2.

Caldwell - The Cougars went 5-1 last week, including 3-1 in CACC games to improve to 27-11 overall and 13-3 in league play. Caldwell swept Pace on Wednesday, split with Georgian Court on Thursday and won twice against Wilmington on Saturday. Junior pitcher Brittany Pulido tossed shutouts against Pace and Wilmington, giving her seven shutouts on the season. Senior Danielle Genovese reached the 200-hit milestone with a single in the second game at Pace. She also hit two-run home runs in both of the wins over Wilmington. Timbrook, who also homered in Game 2, had a bases-loaded, two-out single in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 victory in the second game with Wilmington. Genovese and Timbrook have eight home runs apiece to lead the Cougars. Caldwell was ranked sixth in the NCAA East Region rankings for the third week in a row.

Felician -   Senior C Rebecca Dodd became the third Golden Falcon this season, and seventh all-time to record her 100th career hit, reaching the milestone in a Game 2 loss at Georgian Court. Freshman CF Justine Mateo set the game and career school records for stolen bases in a Game 2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. She also set the single-season Felician marks for walks and triples and the conference record for stolen bases during the week. Senior OF/SS Nicole Degenhardt homered during both ends of a sweep of Goldey-Beacom on Saturday, including a walk-off blast to end Game 2.

Georgian Court - The Lions suffered their first DH sweep of the season Saturday afternoon at Dominican, losing 8-0 and 7-4. GCU was last swept in a twin-bill on April 19, 2009, also at Dominican. 

Holy Family - Holy Family is currently on a season-best seven-game winning streak after going 7-0 last week.  The Tigers took out Goldey-Beacom (7-1), USP (2-1/8-0), Nyack (5-0/3-0) and Post (9-3/7-4). In game two against Nyack, pitcher Jody Searfoss struck out 17 batters. She became the first Holy Family pitcher to earn 200 strike-outs in a season, currently at 212. Against USP, catcher Deanna Myers hit her 10th home run of the season in the second game of the double-header. She is the first Tiger to reach double-digit home runs in a single season. She hit her 11th of the year against Post. The Tigers are currently 20-20 overall and 15-7 against the CACC. The regular season comes to a close this week with road double-headers at Wilmington (Thu) and Felician (Sat.).

Philadelphia -  PhilaU is now on a seven-game winning streak, collecting four wins (all in conference) this past week.  The Lady Rams have six players batting above .300 and an ace pitcher in Ali Schmidt that averages just over nine strikeouts per game.
