2009 Softball Weekly Award Winners

March 9

Player of the Week: Samantha Tu, USP (Jr., OF, Trevose, PA) - Hit .500 (15-for-30) in eight games with seven runs batted in, four runs scored and two doubles. She recorded at least one hit in every game, and picked up three hits in two games and two hits in three others.

Pitcher of the Week: Diana Sansevera, Georgian Court (So., RHP, Manalapan)  - Went 4-1 with one save and a 0.65 ERA. Allowed only 22 hits in 43.0 innings of work and fanned 69, including 18 in a 9-inning win over Dowling. Also struck out 12 in a 2-0 shutout against Bellarmine.

Rookie of the Week: Rachel Ruch, Georgian Court (Fr., INF, Edison, NJ) - Hit .320 for the week with six RBI and four runs scored in 10 games. She homered in her first collegiate game against Clarion and hit another round-tripper later in the week against Clarion.

March 16

Player of the Week: Sarah Beck, Dominican (Sr., OF, 5-9, Milton, NY) - Hit .500 (14-for-28) in a 6-3 week with 12 runs batted in, six runs scored, three doubles, one home run and six stolen bases. She recorded at least one hit in every game and had an RBI in seven contests, including three against AIC, and two versus Assumption and St. Michael's (twice).

Pitcher of the Week: Brianne Moore, Bloomfield (Jr., RHP, Clifton, NJ)- Went 4-0 on the week with a 1.22 ERA. She allowed only four earned runs in 23 innings of work, along with 30 strikeouts. She pitched a complete game shutout against Black Hills State.

Rookie of the Week: DJ Jeppson, Dominican (Fr., OF, 5-7, Sylmar, CA) - Hit .400 in nine games with eight runs, eight RBI and nine stolen bases. Recorded at least one hit in each game, including a 3-for-3 performance with two stolen bases against St. Michael's. She drove in three runs against AIC.

March 23

Player of the Week: Mallory Kirchner, Georgian Court (Sr., OF, South Amboy, NJ) - Hit .388 for the week with seven runs scored, four runs batted in, one double, one home run and two stolen bases. She went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a home run against STAC in the second game of a DH. She followed by going 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI vs. Queens.

Pitcher of the Week: Heather Draper, Goldey-Beacom (So., RHP, Bridgeville, DE) - Went 3-0 on the week for the Lightning with a 0.41 earned run average, 32 strikeouts and six hits allowed in 17.0 innings of work. She picked up a CACC victory over Nyack.

Rookie of the Week: Rachel Ruch, Georgian Court (Fr., 2B, DH, Edison, NJ) - Earned a .438 batting average for the week with seven RBI, two runs scored, two doubles and one homer. She smacked a home run against Kutztown and knocked in two runs against both Queens and St. Thomas Aquinas.

March 30

Player and Rookie of the Week: Deidre Jeppson, Dominican (Fr., 3B, Sylmar, CA) - Helped lead Dominican to an 8-0 week with a .448 batting average, 10 runs scored, five RBI, two homeruns and three stolen bases. She had four multi-hit games and homered against NYIT and Chestnut Hill. She posted a .655 slugging percentage and a .448 on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the Week: Diana Sansevera, Georgian Court (So., RHP, Manalapan, NJ) - Went 2-1 on the week with a 0.97 ERA in four appearances. Struck out 42 batters in 29.0 innings of work and allowed only 16 hits and four runs. Pitched all nine innings in a win over Felician and allowed only two hits while fanning 18. Her only loss of the week was a tough 1-0 setback to Bloomfield, as she struck out 11 in the contest.

April 6

Player of the Week: Cara Piasecki, Dominican (Jr., SS, Monmouth, NJ) - Hit .520 in eight games last week with 10 runs scored, five runs batted in, two home runs and one triple. Collected three hits in three games, against Pace, Queens and Molloy. Homered against Queens and Molloy and scored three runs against both Pace and Queens.

Pitcher and Rookie of the Week: Ali Schmidt, Philadelphia (Fr., RHP, Cordova, MD) - Went 3-0 last week with a 0.36 ERA. Allowed only one run and six hits in 25.0 innings of work with 38 strikeouts. Earned impressive wins over the top two teams in the region in C.W. Post and Georgian Court. Pitched all 11 innings and struck out 21 batters in a 2-1 win over the Lions.

April 13

Player of the Week: Marissa Tamez, Caldwell (Fr., 3B/C, Fountain Valley, CA) - Batted .643 (9-for-14) with nine RBI and two doubles to lead the Cougars to a 6-0 record last week. She hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of seventh inning to score two runs and beat Adelphi, 9-8 on April 9. She went 3-for-3 with five RBI and a double in that game.

Pitcher of the Week: Brittany Pulido, Caldwell (So., RHP, Ojai, CA) - Went 3-0 last week with a 0.61 earned-run average in four appearances. Earned wins over Post, Pace and Adelphi and allowed only 18 hits in 23.0 innings, while fanning 17 and not walking a single batter. She allowed five combined hits in complete game wins over Post and Adelphi.

Rookie of the Week: Ali Schmidt, Philadelphia (Fr., RHP, Cordova, MD) - Went 3-0 last week with a 1.81 ERA in four appearances. In 24.0 innings of work, she allowed 16 hits and struck out 33 batters. Fanned 11 in a complete game win over Chestnut Hill.

April 20

Co-Players of the Week: Sarah Beck, Dominican (Sr., OF, Milton, NY) and Kyrie Timbrook, Jr., INF, Los Gatos, CA) -  Beck hit .485 in an 8-0 week with three home runs, 11 runs batted in and nine runs scored for the Chargers. She collected multiple hits in five games and had four hits and two home runs in game two of a double-header against Queens. Timbrook hit .417 in a 9-2 week for the Cougars with 10 runs batted in, 10 doubles, two home runs and seven runs scored. She hit three doubles at Nyack.

Pitcher of the Week: Rachel Morgan, USP (Jr., RHP, Clackamas, OR) - Went 3-0 last week, which was highlighted by a no-hitter against Felician. She allowed only one run and six hits with 21 strikeouts in 15.1 innings of work for the week. Held opponents to a .109 (6-for-55) batting average and did not walk a batter.

Rookie of the Week: Katrina Pistilli, Dominican (Fr., RHP, Staten Island, NY) - Went 4-0 in five appearances on the week and did not allow a single earned run in 31 innings of work. Fanned 25 batters and walked only four. Threw a complete game 1-hitter against Bloomfield.

April 27

Player of the Week: Courtney Cuevas, Georgian Court (So., 3B, Fords, NJ) - Hit .607 in a 6-2 week with 16 RBI, three home runs, seven runs scored and three doubles. Smashed a grand slam in a victory over C.W. Post and hit safely in all eight games. Went 5-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles in a game 2 victory over Caldwell.

Pitcher of the Week: Diana Sansevera, Georgian Court (So., RHP, Manalapan, NJ) - Went 4-1 on the week, which included victories over Caldwell and C.W. Post, with a 1.15 ERA. Struck out 19 in 24.1 innings with just four earned runs. She threw a 4-hit shutout at C.W. Post.

Co-Rookies of the Week: Katrina Pistilli, Dominican (Fr., RHP, Staten Island, NY) and Rachel Ruch, Georgian Court (Fr., 2B, Edison, NJ) - Went 5-0 on the week with one save and a 1.50 ERA. She fanned 25 batters in 28.0 innings of work. Ruch hit .531 in eight games last week with 10 RBI, 13 runs scored and three home runs. She went 4-for-6 with two doubles in game 2 at Caldwell.

May 4

Player and Pitcher of the Week: Diana Sansevera, Georgian Court (So., RHP, Manalapan, NJ) Was named MVP of the CACC Tournament after leading the Lions to the Championship. She threw a pair of one-hitters, against Holy Family and Dominican. In four complete games, she hurled three shutouts and allowed only 11 hits and one earned run (0.25 ERA) in 28.0 innings, with 20 strikeouts.

Rookie of the Week: Katie Renner, Philadelphia (Fr., Berryville, VA) - Hit .750 last week with an .800 on-base percentage. Went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in an elimination-game victory over Dominican. Drove in nine runs for the week and hit four doubles with four runs scored.

May 11

Player and Rookie of the Week: Brooke Hull, Georgian Court (Fr., DH, Nazareth, PA) - Hit .444 in three NCAA Regional games with a .899 slugging percentage. She hit a first inning, two-run home run in the East 2 Region Championship game against New Haven in a 5-3 victory. Also drove in two runs against New Haven the day before with a double.

Pitcher of the Week: Diana Sansevera, Georgian Court (So., RHP, Manalapan, NJ) - Won all three of GCU's games at the NCAA Regional at C.W. Post, and all were complete games. Registered a 2.00 earned-run average and struck out 20 batters in 21.0 innings of work. She fanned 11 in a tournament-opening triumph over Southern Connecticut State.
