NEW CASTLE, DE - Wilmington University Softball Coach Erin Harvey and her staff are pleased to announce their recruiting class for the upcoming 2009 season. 

The Wildcats are adding eight new student-athletes to their roster.  Joining the program are six freshmen and two transfers.  The incoming freshmen are Angelica Appold (C. Milton Wright HS/Bel Air, MD), Caitlin Borris (William Penn HS/Bear, DE), Amanda Crockett (North East HS/North East, MD), Jessica Hassman (North East HS/Elkton, MD, Kristin Garvin (Pennsville HS/Pennsville, NJ) and Kinsley Parker (Sussex Central HS/Millsboro, DE).  

Angelica Appold, a utility player from C. Milton Wright High School, was a First Team Aegis All-Hartford County and First Team Baltimore Sun All-County selection this past season.  A member of the 2006 state championship team, she also will play soccer at Wilmington.  Caitlin Borris, an infielder, comes from William Penn High School, where she was a former All-State and All-Blue Hen Conference award winner during her career.  Amanda Crockett, a catcher from North East High School, was an All-Cecil County selection this past year.  Jessica Hassman, a utility player, also hails from North East High School, and was an All-Cecil County award winner as well.  Both Crocket and Hassman were starters on the 2007 squad that went to the finals of the Maryland Class AA State Championships.  Kristin Garvin, an outfielder/pitcher comes to Wilmington from Pennsville High School, where she was an All Tri-County, All Salem County, All Courier-Post, and All-State selection for the state champion Eagles of Pennsville.  Rounding out the freshmen class is Kinsley Parker, who was the starting center fielder for the Delaware state champion Sussex Central Golden Knights.  

Wilmington is also adding two transfers in Amanda Cordrey (Sussex Central HS/Millsboro, DE) and Heather Karasaek (North County/Linthicum, MD).  Both Cordrey and Karasek come to the ‘Cats from Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, and will enter their sophomore years of eligibility.  Cordrey was a former All-State catcher at Sussex Central, and also earned All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) honors last season, hitting .323 and leading her team with a .985 fielding percentage behind the plate.  Karasek, a pitcher, was a former All-Anne Arundel County selection at North County, and went 7-4 with a 2.51 earned run average in 20 appearances for the Cardinals. 

"We are ecstatic to have these eight players join us and look forward to their arrival", stated Coach Harvey.  She added, "They will fit in nicely with our returning players, and give the squad the deepest team we've had in quite some time.  Each should challenge for significant playing time, and it will make for some very competitive softball here at Wilmington."

These new recruits join nine returning student-athletes on a Wildcat squad that finished the 2008 season with an overall record of 29-19 (16-8 in the CACC) and qualified for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference playoffs for the second consecutive season.  

Wilmington University is an NCAA Division II institution located in New Castle, Delaware, that competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.  The Conference is comprised of 13 schools throughout Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut.
