2008 Softball Weekly Award Winners March 10 Player of the Week: Nicole Hays, Wilmington (Sr., SS, Bel Air, MD)-Hit .405 in a 9-3 week in the team's trip to Florida. Hit one home run, drove in 10 runs and scored four times while adding two doubles and three stolen bases. She went 4-for-4 with three RBI and a double in a 4-1 win over Findlay. Pitcher of the Week: Katie Turner, Wilmington (So., RHP, Smyrna, DE) - Went 5-1 with one save with a 0.67 ERA in seven appearances last week. Hurled a shutout against Saint Rose and allowed only four earned runs in 42 innings of work. She ended the week by not allowing an earned run in 28 straight innings. Rookie of the Week: Kristin Tomlinson, Wilmington (Fr., Millsboro, DE) - Hit .400 for the week with three RBI, six runs scored, one double and one stolen base. She collected multiple hits twice and drove in two runs against Saint Rose. March 17 Player of the Week: Mallorie Mathews, Bloomfield (Jr., 3B, Fair Lawn, NJ) - Hit .600 (9-for-15) with seven RBI, six runs scored and one home run in a 3-1 week for the Deacons. She went 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs and three RBI against Virginia State. Pitcher of the Week: Katie Turner, Wilmington (So., RHP, Smyrna, DE) - Picked up three wins on the week and allowed only one earned run in 15 innings of work. Earned a CACC win over Philadelphia by allowing only six hits and fanning eight in a complete game. Rookie of the Week: Brittany Pulido, Caldwell (Fr., RHP, Ojai, CA) - Went 1-1 for the week with a 1.17 ERA against two top-10 teams in Lock Haven and Nebraska-Omaha. She threw a complete game shutout versus Lock Haven, allowing three hits and no walks while fanning three. March 24 Player of the Week: Heather Walker, Georgian Court (Sr., C, Hanover, Ontario) - Hit .575 in Georgian Court's 11-game trip to Florida. Recorded two home runs, including a grand slam, three doubles, seven RBI and 12 runs scored. She combined to go 5-for-6 with a grand slam on March 20 against South Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha. Pitcher of the Week: Brittany Pulido, Caldwell (Fr., RHP, Ojai, CA) - Tossed complete game victories against New Haven and Northern State last week. She compiled a 0.50 ERA after allowing only one earned run in 14.0 innings of work, while fanning seven. She walked only one batter. Rookie of the Week: Nicole Gebhart, Wilmington (Fr., INF, Wilmington, DE) - Hit .357 in a 2-2 week with one home run, six RBI, one run scored and one stolen base. She blasted her first career grand slam in a 4-0 win over Bloomfield. March 31 Player of the Week: Gina Capardi, Caldwell (Jr., 2B, West Caldwell, NJ) - Hit .588 in a 5-1 week with nine RBI, 10 runs scored, two triples and one home run. Collected two hits in each of the final five games of the week and drove in three runs against Pace. She scored three runs in a game twice. Co-Pitchers of the Week: Samantha Sasko, Georgian Court (Jr., RHP, Groveville, NJ) and Katie Turner, Wilmington (So., RHP, Smyrna, DE) - Sasko went 4-0 with a 0.28 ERA. Allowed only 19 hits in 25.0 innings of work while fanning 34 and walking only two batters. Picked up wins in both ends of a double-header against Post. Turner was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA during the week. She threw a 3-hitter with eight strikeouts against both USP and St. Thomas Aquinas. She fanned 23 in 21.0 innings pitched while surrendering only 10 hits. Rookie of the Week: Brittany Pulido, Caldwell (Fr., RHP, Ojai, CA) - Went 2-0 with a 1.58 ERA and one save last week. Pitched a 7-inning shutout against Nyack, allowing three hits and no walks while fanning five. Tossed two innings of scoreless relief in a win over Pace for her first career save. April 7 Player of the Week: Cara Piasecki, Dominican (So., SS, Port Monmouth, NJ) - Belted four home runs in four games to go with a .643 batting average, seven RBI, eight runs scored, one double and one stolen base last week. Hit two solo home runs in game two of a double-header against St. Thomas Aquinas. She also hit homers in both ends of a double-header sweep against Goldey-Beacom. Pitcher of the Week: Christine Stathes, Dominican (Sr., RHP, Cornwell, NY) - Went 3-0 for the week with a 0.37 ERA. She registered three of her team's four wins on the week. Allowed only 15 hits and one earned run in 19.0 innings of work, while striking out seven batters. Rookie of the Week: Lauren DeGrushe, Felician (Fr., SS, Guttenburg, NJ) - Hit .429 in a 4-2 week with four home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored. Hit two homers in the first game of a double-header at Molloy. Also drove in all three runs with a home run in a 3-2 victory at Holy Family. April 14 Player of the Week: Lauren Armstrong, Holy Family (Sr., CF, Williamstown, NJ) - Helped lead Holy Family to a 5-1 week with a .667 batting average (14-for-21) with seven RBI, six runs scored, three doubles and two stolen bases. Collected multiple hits in five games and drove in multiple runs three times. Armstrong went 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and two doubles in a win over Dominican. Pitcher of the Week: Samantha Sasko, Georgian Court (Jr., RHP, Groveville, NJ) - Became the first GCU pitcher ever to pitch back-to-back no-hitters, done against Goldey-Beacom and Bloomfield. The Bloomfield effort was a perfect game in which Sasko struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced, including the final 10. On the week, Sasko went 6-0 and posted an ERA of 0.26 (1 ER, 27.0 IP), while striking out 54 batters. Rookie of the Week: Annie Forte, Caldwell (Fr., 1B, Toms River, NJ) - Hit .452 (14-for-31) in 10 games with three home runs, 11 runs scored and nine RBI. She went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBI in a win over Queens. She also homered against Adelphi and Philadelphia. April 21 Player of the Week: Jacque Curtis, Philadelphia (Sr., C, Punxsutawnee, PA) - Hit .692 (18-for-26) in eight games with a 1.192 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage last week. She drove in 16 runs, scored 12 times and smacked three home runs, two doubles and one triple. She recorded one 4-hit game and three, 3-hit games. Pitcher of the Week: Fauna Ryerson, Bloomfield (Jr., RHP, West Milford, NJ) - Helped lead Bloomfield to a 6-0 record last week by going 4-0 with a 0.82 ERA. She allowed only four runs and 16 hits in 17.0 innings of work. Rookie of the Week: Angela DiBeneditto, Holy Family (Fr., RHP, Forest Hill, MD) - Went 3-0 for the week with a 0.00 ERA. She allowed 15 hits in 21.0 innings of work and fanned 23 batters with only six walks. She struck out 10 batters in a complete game victory over Nyack. April 28 Player of the Week: Cara Piasecki, Dominican (So., SS, Port Monmouth, NJ) - Hit .559, drove in 14 runs, scored seven times and hit two homers and five doubles in a 7-3 week. She went 3-for-4 with six RBI in the first game of a double-header against Wilmington. She went 4-for-4 with one run and two RBI in a win over Post and also notched a 3-hit game in a win over USP. Pitcher of the Week: Rachel Morgan, USP (So., RHP, Clackamas, OR) - Led USP to a 5-1 week by going 4-0 with one save in six appearances. She sported a 0.95 ERA and allowed only 16 hits in 29.1 innings of work, along with 27 strikeouts. Threw an 8-inning shutout at Holy Family with one walk and nine strikeouts. Rookie of the Week: Diana Sansevera, Georgian Court (Fr., RHP, Manalapan, NJ) - Went 3-0 for the week with victories over Caldwell, Holy Family and Nyack. She allowed only four earned runs in 22.1 innings (1.88 ERA) with 19 strikeouts. She hurled a 5-inning no-hitter at Nyack. May 5 Player of the Week: Nicole Bodrog, Caldwell (Sr., 3B, Mt. Laurel, NJ) - Hit .500 (6-for-12) with six runs scored, two RBI, two doubles and one stolen base in leading Caldwell to the CACC Tournament Championship. Went 3-for-4 with four runs, one RBI and two doubles in the championship game against Georgian Court. Pitcher of the Week: Brittany Pulido, Caldwell (Fr., RHP, Ojai, CA) - Earned the victory in all three of Caldwell's wins at the CACC Tournament. In 19.0 innings, she allowed only 13 hits and four runs with eight strikeouts. She began the tournament by throwing back-to-back 3-hit shutouts against USP and Georgian Court. Rookie of the Week: Angela DiBeneditto, Holy Family (Fr., RHP, Forest Hill, MD) - Went 9.0 innings in a 1-0 victory over Wilmington University in the opening game of the CACC Tournament. She allowed only five hits and zero walks while fanning eight. |
