CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team had the 13th-highest team grade-point average among all NCAA Division II programs during the 2006-07 academic year, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Cougars, coached by Dean Johnson, posted a team GPA of 3.410, the second-highest GPA in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the third-best in the Northeast Region. Additionally, nine players had a GPA of 3.50 or higher to earn NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors.

This is the second year in a row that the Cougars have been ranked 13th nationally in team GPA, as the 2006 squad had 10 players achieve NFCA Scholar-Athlete status. In 1996, Caldwell had the highest GPA among all NAIA institutions. In 2004, the team received an award from the NCAA for having the highest team GPA of the eight participants at the Women's College World Series. In 2005, the Cougars ranked 29th in NCAA Division II and had nine players earn NFCA Scholar-Athlete accolades.

The student-athletes who earned Scholar-Athlete honors in 2006-07 are Stacy Falkowski (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), Nicole Webb (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Twp.), Alicia Langone (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick), seniors Nicole Bodrog (Mt. Laural, NJ/Lenape), Stephanie Brodo (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and Carrie Flasphaler (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), pictured, junior Cecilia Goforth (Houston, TX/St. Agnes Academy), and sophomores Sydney Day (Houston, TX/Stratford) and Kyrie Timbrook (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos).

Last season the Cougars went 34-17 record and earned a share of their fourth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular-season title.
