NEW HAVEN, CT - Dominican College sophomore Cara Piasecki has claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, April 27. Rachel Morgan of USP was the pick for Pitcher of the Week, while Georgian Court University pitcher Diana Sansevera garnered Rookie of the Week accolades.

Piasecki hit .559 with 14 RBI in 10 games last week.

Piasecki, a sophomore shortstop from Port Monmouth, NJ, hit .559, drove in 14 runs, scored seven times and hit two homers and five doubles in a 7-3 week for the Chargers. She went 3-for-4 with six RBI in the first game of a double-header against Wilmington. She went 4-for-4 with one run and two RBI in a win over Post and also notched a 3-hit game in a win over USP.

Morgan, a sophomore right-hander from Clackamas, OR, led USP to a 5-1 week by going 4-0 with one save in six appearances. She sported a 0.95 ERA and allowed only 16 hits in 29.1 innings of work, along with 27 strikeouts. She threw an 8-inning shutout at Holy Family with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Sansevera, a freshman right-hander from Manalapan, NJ, went 3-0 for the week with victories over Caldwell, Holy Family and Nyack. She allowed only four earned runs in 22.1 innings (1.88 ERA) with 19 strikeouts. She hurled a 5-inning no-hitter at Nyack.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars wrapped up second place and a first-round bye in the upcoming CACC Tournament after finishing league play with a 19-5 record. Last week Caldwell swept Bloomfield, Post and Holy Family while splitting with league-leading Georgian Court. A victory over non-conference foe Bridgeport on Apr. 27 was the Cougars' 30th win of the season, marking the sixth straight year that the program has won 30 games. Also, that victory was head coach Dean Johnson's 399th of his 14-year career at Caldwell. The Cougars host the CACC Tournament on May 1-3.

Felician - Freshman 1B Samantha Ortiz hit a two-run homerun in the first inning of both of Felician's victories last week, supporting four-hit shutouts by junior P Nicole Broecker over Nyack on Thursday and Wilmington on Saturday. Felician would qualify for the CACC Tournament by winning all three of its make-up games in the next two days - the Golden Falcons would nose out USP on a tiebreaker for the No. 6 seed.

Georgian Court - Georgian Court crunched 13 home runs in eight games last week, including nine in double-header at Nyack on April 26. Shortstop Danielle Brossoie went 6-for-8 with three homers , four runs, and eight RBI in the two games at Nyack.

Holy Family - Holy Family ended its regular season by playing five double-headers, including the final four on the road on consecutive days. The Tigers were swept in the regular season home finale by the University of the Sciences on Tuesday. Two days later, Holy Family rebounded to split with #20 Georgian Court to clinch its first postseason berth in four years. On Friday, the Tigers took two from Bloomfield. Caldwell swept Holy Family on Saturday. The Tigers ended the regular season with a split at Queens on Sunday. The Tigers will be the fourth seed in the CACC Championship Tournament and face Wilmington in the opening round on Thursday, May 1 at noon.

USP - The Devils recorded their longest winning streak of CACC games with five straight wins this week. It is also their longest overall winning streak since winning six straight in Florida during the 2004 season. Carolynn Snavely moved into fourth place on the Devils' all-time RBI list with 63 for her career. Snavely also moved into fifth place on the Devils all-time hit list with 112 career hits. Rachel Morgan extended her single season record for strikeouts with 27 this week to give her 123 for the season. Morgan moved in 2nd place on the Devils all-time strikeout list on Saturday, recording her 187th career strikeout - she trails all-time leader Laura Flint by 69 K's. Freshman Dayna Phillips needs one more hit to tie the USP single season record of 46 set by Sarina Lavooy last season. Morgan currently ranks 53rd nationally in strikouts/7 innings (6.8) and 46th nationally in earned run average (1.48).
