ARMSTRONG, SASKO AND FORTE CLAIM SOFTBALL WEEKLY ACCOLADES

NEW HAVEN, CT - Lauren Armstrong of Holy Family University has claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Week accolades for the week ending Sunday, April 13. Georgian Court University junior Samantha Sasko was named Pitcher of the Week, while Annie Forte of Caldwell College picked up Rookie of the Week honors.
Armstrong, a senior center fielder from Williamstown, NJ, helped lead Holy Family to a 5-1 week with a .667 batting average (14-for-21) with seven RBI, six runs scored, three doubles and two stolen bases. She collected multiple hits in five games and drove in multiple runs three times. Armstrong went 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and two doubles in a win over Dominican.
Sasko, a junior right-hander from Groveville, NJ, became the first GCU pitcher ever to pitch back-to-back no-hitters, the first occuring on April 8th at Goldey-Beacom College with the second coming two days later at Bloomfield College. The Bloomfield effort was a perfect game in which Sasko struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced, including the final 10. Overall, Sasko had an 11-inning no-hit streak. On the week, Sasko went 6-0 and posted an almost non-existent ERA of 0.26 (1 ER, 27.0 IP), while striking out 54 batters.
Forte, a freshman 1B from Toms River, NJ, hit .452 (14-for-31) in 10 games with three home runs, 11 runs scored and nine RBI. She went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBI in a win over Queens. She also homered against Adelphi and Philadelphia.

Nicole Fortino, Georgian Court (Sr., 3B, Brick, NJ) - Drove in 15 runs in seven games and hit .500 (11-22) for the week.
Gina Capardi, Caldwell (Jr., 2B, West Caldwell, NJ) - Hit .484 with 11 runs scored, six RBI, three doubles and one HR.
Jody Searfoss, Holy Family (So., RHP, Weatherly, PA) - Went 3-0 for the week with a 0.34 ERA. Fanned 32 in 20.1 IP.
Rachel Morgan, USP (So., 5-4, Clackamas, OR) - Went 2-2 with a 0.81 ERA for the week. Fanned 38 batters in 26.0 IP.
CACC Notes
Caldwell - The Cougars played two of the region's top teams last week, losing two close games at Adelphi on Apr. 8 before splitting with C.W. Post, which is also ranked 13th nationally. Junior Gina Capardi hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to give Caldwell a 2-1 victory in the second game against C.W. Post, the region's top ranked team. Freshman Annie Forte hit the first three home runs of her career last week, homering against Adelphi, Queens and Philadelphia.
Felician - Freshman IF Lauren DeGrushe had two walk-off singles last week, in the 10th inning against Post and in the seventh against Philadelphia, both in Game 1 of home doubleheaders.
Georgian Court - After dropping from #16 to #25 in the National rankings, Georgian Court rallied off a perfect 7-0 week, out-scoring their opponents, 55-6.
Holy Family - Holy Family is back at .500 after winning five of its six games this past week. The Tigers defeated Chestnut Hill on 4/8 (1-0, 8-3), split with Dominican (8-0, 4-7) and swept Philadelphia (9-1, 10-2). Centerfielder Lauren Armstrong is on a seven-game hitting streak. She has multiple hits in her last five games. Shortstop Kristilyn Obert has at least one hit in five consecutive games. Pitcher Jody Searfoss fanned a career-high 14 batters in a win over Dominican. She has won her last five starts. Holy Family is at home against Wilmington (Del.) (Wednesday), Molloy (Thursday), Nyack (Saturday) and St. Thomas Aquinas (Sunday).
USP - Carolynn Snavely became USP's all-time leader in career doubles with a double in her first at-bat against Nyack. She now has 24 for her career...Snavely also moved into sixth place on the Devils' all-time RBI list with 59 for her career. With her 38 strikeouts this week Rachel Morgan moved into fifth place on the Devils all-time strikeout list with 144 for her career. USP's doubleheader against West Chester on Monday, April 14, 2008 has been cancelled due to West Chester needing to make up a PSAC contest.
