WALKER, PULIDO AND GEBHART CLAIM SOFTBALL WEEKLY AWARDS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Heather Walker of Georgian Court University has claimed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, March 23. Brittany Pulido of Caldwell College was tabbed Pitcher of the Week and Nicole Gebhart of Wilmington University garnered Rookie of the Week accolades.
Walker, a senior catcher from Hanover, Ontario, hit .575 in Georgian Court's 11-game trip to Florida. She recorded two home runs, including a grand slam, three doubles, seven RBI and 12 runs scored. She combined to go 5-for-6 with a grand slam on March 20 against South Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha.
Pulido, a freshman right-hander from Ojai, CA, tossed complete game victories against New Haven and Northern State last week. She compiled a 0.50 ERA in the two victories after allowing only one earned run in 14.0 innings of work, while fanning seven. She walked just one batter.
Gebhart, a freshman infielder from Wilmington, DE, hit .357 in a 2-2 week with one home run, six RBI, one run scored and one stolen base. She blasted her first career grand slam in a 4-0 win over Bloomfield.
Honorable Mention
Gina Capardi, Caldwell (Jr., 2B, Caldwell, NJ) - Hit .714 in four games with three RBI, five runs and one double.Recorded a hit in nine consecutive at-bats at one point during the week.
Katie Turner, Wilmington (So., RHP, 5-5, Smyrna, DE) - Went 1-1 for the week and allowed only nine hits and one run in 13.0 IP, while fanning 13.
Rachel Morgan, USP (So., RHP, Clackamas, OR) - Hurled a complete-game shutout against Post and allowed only three hits to go with 11 strikeouts while not walking a batter.
Brianne Moore, Bloomfield (So., RHP, Clifton, NJ) - Went 1-1 for the week with a 1.75 ERA. Fanned 12 in 12.0 IP.
CACC Notes
Caldwell - Junior Gina Capardi recorded a hit in nine consecutive at-bats last week, a streak that stretched across three games. Capardi went 6-for-6 against Concordia (Neb.) and New Haven on Mar. 17, before starting the game with Northern State with three straight hits. The Cougars open their conference schedule with a doubleheader against Nyack College on Tuesday, Mar. 25 at Caldwell Field.
Georgian Court - Went 7-4 last week at the Rebel Games after going 1-11 in 2007. Received 10 votes in the NFCA's most recent national poll. The squad lost to No. 5 Nebraska-Omaha, 6-5, on March 20 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Post - Post opened up the northern part of its schedule with a split against St. Thomas Aquinas, and was swept in its CACC opener against USP last week. Senior Desere Obregon led the team by batting .455 (5-11) with two doubles and a run scored. She also had seven total bases, good for a .636 slugging percentage and had a .500 on-base percentage as well. Sophomore Samantha Canning finished last week with a .385 batting average (5-13) with three doubles and one run batted in. It'll be a busy week for the Eagles as they will take to the diamond five times, starting with a CACC twinbill against Bloomfield on March 25. Then AIC comes to LaMoy Field for a non-conference set on March 26, followed by a trip to Mercy College on March 28, and a doubleheader against Georgian Court on March 29 and Assumption College on March 30.
USP - USP's conference opening sweep against Post was their first doubleheader sweep to open their CACC slate since the 2000 season. Saturday's wins against Post were their first against the Eagles since the 2001 season ? The Devils had lost 12 straight since then.
