CALDWELL SLIGHT FAVORITE ACCORDING TO CACC PRESEASON SOFTBALL POLL

NEW HAVEN – Caldwell College has been picked first in the 2007 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Preseason Softball Poll, which was voted upon by the conference's 12 head coaches. Caldwell received the most points in the poll, but Dominican College received the most first-place votes. The Chargers were voted first on six ballots, while Caldwell had five first-place nods. Caldwell garnered 136 total points in the poll to Dominican's 134.


Caldwell, which is ranked 21st in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) preseason poll, finished the 2006 season with a 37-16 overall record and a 19-3 mark in the CACC. The Cougars won the conference regular-season and tournament championships and earned a spot in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament.

Dominican received votes in the NFCA poll after finishing second in the CACC regular-season and conference tournament last year. The Chargers concluded the season 37-19 overall and 15-7 in conference play. The Chargers return the 2006 CACC Pitcher of the Year (Christine Stathes), Rookie of the Year (Sarah Beck) and Coach of the Year (Rick Krasny).

Georgian Court wasn't far behind with 118 points in the third slot. The Lions went 29-17 last year and tied Dominican with a 15-7 conference record.

Goldey-Beacom and Holy Family each picked up 93 points to tie for fourth in the poll. The Lightning went 17-20 last year and 14-8 in the CACC, while the Tigers finished 21-29 overall and 11-11 in conference action. Felician was sixth with 89 points and the Golden Falcons were selected first in one poll. Felician went 26-25 last year and 12-10 in the CACC.

The poll is rounded out by Bloomfield (72 points), Post (61 points), Wilmington (57 points), Nyack (35 points), Philadelphia (30 points) and USP (18 points).
