BLOOMFIELD'S MATHEWS NAMED TO ECAC SOFTBALL FIRST TEAM

NEW HAVEN, CT - Bloomfield College sophomore third baseman Mallorie Mathews has been named an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) First Team All-Star, becoming the first Deacon softball player to receive such an honor. Mathews, who led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in batting average, slugging percentage and RBI in 2007, was the only CACC player named to the squad.

In leading the Deacons to their best record since becoming an NCAA Division II member, Mathews hit .442 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI. She missed winning the CACC triple crown by one home run despite playing in 13 less games than the leader. Her slugging percentage (.830) was almost 100 points better than her closest CACC competitor and placed her 14th nationally for Division II. Her slugging percentage, RBI total and total bases (107) were all Bloomfield College records.

Mathews was named ECAC Player of the Week twice in 2007 and was also a Daktronics First Team All-Northeast Region selection. She was a First Team All-CACC performer and tabbed CACC Player of the Week twice.

A native of Fair Lawn, NJ, Mathews is an education major.
