CALDWELL SELECTED FIRST IN PRESEASON CACC SOFTBALL POLL

February 16, 2006

NEW HAVEN - Caldwell College has been selected to win the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) softball title, according to a preseason poll conducted by the league's 12 head coaches. The Cougars, who are ranked 16th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) preseason poll, received nine of the 12 first-place votes. Georgian Court University received two first-place nods, while Felician College was the first pick on one ballot.

Caldwell received the most points in the poll by a wide margin, garnering 23 more points than the second place finisher, Georgian Court. The Cougars received 141 points, while the Lions had 118. Twelve points were awarded for a first-place vote, 11 for second place, and so on. The Lions finished second in the CACC last season with a 14-6 mark, along with a 28-16 overall record.

The Cougars finished 22nd in the final 2005 NFCA national poll with a 40-11 overall record and an 18-2 conference mark. Caldwell, which won the CACC regular-season and tournament championships last season, won its first game at the NCAA Northeast Regional Tournament, before narrowly falling in their next two contests.

Post University finished third in the preseason poll with 107 points after going 23-22 last season and 13-7 in CACC play. For their efforts, the Eagles advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. Holy Family and Felician rounded out the top-five in the poll with 105 and 92 points, respectively. Holy Family finished with a CACC record of 11-9 last year and went 23-18 overall, while Felician went 22-16 overall and 14-6 in the CACC.
