BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE SOFTBALL TEAM RAISES FUNDS FOR HURRICANE VICTIMS AT “MOVIE IN THE PARK”

On Saturday, September 24th 2005 the Township of Bloomfield held its first ever "Movie in the Park" to help raise funds for victims of hurricane Katrina.

Sponsored by the Bloomfield Municipal Alliance, along with the Bloomfield Recreation Department, "Toy Story" was shown outdoors at the Pulaski Park.

The park, which serves as the home field for the Bloomfield College Lady Deacons Softball team, provided a beautiful outdoor setting for Disney's movie, which in fact was celebrating its 10th year anniversary.

All members of the college's softball team were present soliciting donations for the American Red Cross. The Lady Deacons raised over $950.00 for victims of Katrina.

"It was a nice effort by my teammates to help the victims in the Gulf", said senior captain Kristin Bella, "and a day to provide community service for the residents of Bloomfield."

Over 300 children and adults, which included the Mayor and some Council members, were present in the beautiful early autumn weather. Parks and Recreation Director, Anthony Nesto, who also is the Lady Deacons Head Coach, thought it was a no brainer to have his team present.

"The College and town have a great relationship and it was beautiful to see the faces of our young children enjoy the movie. Our team unanimously thought it was a great idea to help the victims of the hurricane, especially since it was being shown on our field."

"Once again an athletic team at Bloomfield, under the outstanding leadership of Athletic Director Sheila Wooten, helped the unfortunate in a real time of need," Nesto added.
