New Castle, DE – Wilmington College Softball Head Coach Gretchen Loose has been appointed, as one of an exclusive group of coaches, by the NCAA to serve as a clinician for the NCAA Youth Education through Sports (YES) Clinic Fueled by POWERade. The clinic is scheduled for Saturday, May 21st at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia in conjunction with the 2005 NCAA Division II Women’s Softball Championship.

Casey Bradford

Accompanying her on this trip and assisting her with her duties will be her Associate Head Coach/Sports Information Director Erin Harvey and junior second baseman Casey Bradford (Pennsville/Pennsville, NJ).

By participating as a clinician in the YES Program, Coach Loose will help promote the NCAA’s primary purpose of developing educational leadership, physical fitness, and athletic participation. The program offers YES participants from the Salem area the unique opportunity to learn softball skills and to experience the thrill of collegiate softball from NCAA softball coaches and student-athletes. This clinic is designed to teach girls the “fun” in fundamentals of sports and life.

Coach Loose will conduct four 30-minute instructional sessions for participants in fundamental skills in the areas of Offensive Skills, Defensive Skills, Base running and Sliding, and Life Skills. Bradford, a captain and the team’s 2005 Most Valuable Player, was selected by the coaching staff to assist Coach Loose in instructing and demonstrating these skills. She will also act as a mentor to the group participants. “Being an elementary education major, I thought this would be a great experience for Casey. She has done work like this in the past at local camps and works very well with young people. She is extremely motivated, demonstrates strong leadership skills, possesses an outgoing personality, is fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game, and can offer valuable advice on her experience as a student-athlete. I am honored to have her share this wonderful occasion with me”, stated Coach Loose.

According to Wilmington College Athletic Director Frank Aiello, “This is an exciting opportunity to get the College’s name out on the national level in terms of NCAA Division II. This is an extreme honor to be chosen to participate in such a great educational program, after just completing our first full year as a member of the NCAA.”
